One Amazing COMET ... Chariot!
One Extraordinary OWNER ... Rachel!
Photo: Used with permission of the Orlando Sentinel, copyright 2009.
You won't see this misty yellow comet in the night sky, but instead, blazing a memorable trail across the nations' highways and byways, piloted by her devoted mother, Rachel!
Rachel, a member of the AACA Florida Region in Orlando, embodies passionate AACA spirit of preservation and enjoyment, as the original owner of "Chariot", her 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente. Together they have logged over 558,000 miles ~ journeying from Florida to Galveston, Texas, to Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, western New York, and all points between. In 2007, Rachel and Chariot drove to Erie, Pennsylvania to attend her 70th high school reunion. She proudly displays a "just bragging, same owner & engine" sign in Chariot's window celebrating each remarkable mileage milestone that earns a great deal of respect and playful admiration from her fellow motorists.
Purchased for $3,289.30 on February 17, 1964, the secret to Chariot's longevity lies in her devoted advocate, Rachel, "I wouldn't trade her for the world."
Rachel has faithfully cared for her and maintained her, all the while keeping meticulous records and documentation on each repair, equipment replacement and birthday. And, lifetime guarantees? Well, you could say Chariot has nine lives, more actually ... to date, Chariot has benefited from 17 free J.C. Penney batteries, 7 Midas mufflers, and 3 sets of shock absorbers from Sears.
In addition to enjoying life from behind Chariot's wheel, she keeps busy volunteering weekly at the Orlando Police Department and serving as President of a Parliamentary unit that is dedicated to the study of parliamentary law. Rachel is also the past president of the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, member of DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and a Professional Registered Parliamentarian serving national organizations as a paid advisor.
Turning 91 years young in August, Rachel radiates joy and a zest for life. As she encourages, "have fun -- you only pass this way once!"
Rachel and Chariot , true AACA ambassadors ... wishing you many more Miles of Smiles!

Headquarters Starting Grid... Meet Steve Moskowitz!
Many of our members know a little bit about Steve, AACA Executive Director and our Crew Chief since 2004, either through working with him directly, meeting him at an AACA event, speaking with him on the phone or communicating via email, viewing his posts on the AACA Forum, reading his headquarters column in each issue of Antique Automobile magazine, listening to his remarks at our February annual meeting in Philadelphia, the list goes on. So, instead of the customary biography, we developed some questions for him which he has reluctantly agreed to answer.
AACA's version of "20 Questions"!
Things you didn't know about Steve

What is your favorite movie? Animal House - long story! I lived it in college.
If you could attend an AACA meet or tour with any celebrity alive today, who would it be? Like a lot of people, Jay Leno, but I would have loved to know Bill Harrah or Barney Pollard.

What do you think the greatest invention is in your lifetime? Lately - my iPhone! Otherwise, MRI equipment.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be? I would not look good in a spiderman or superman suit so I guess super human intelligence would be the thing to have!

What is the longest you have ever waited in line and why? 1 1/2 hours, Olympic Store in Australia, no choice!!
Whom would you cast to play you in a movie? My friends might say Jim Carey but I'm guessing Al Pacino although it would ruin his career.
