Beach Erosion & Restoration Taskforce Update

Dear Neighbor,
Moving the sand
After a long and seeming complex process, GNBA finally secured the permits required to allow us to harvest sand from the sand bar at the west end of its main beach.  This sand is true beach sand which over the years has slowly moved westward from the entire length of our beach where it was finally washed seaward by the storms and by the natural flow of the stream which feeds our two ponds on its way to the sound.

By our new permit, we finally harvested the sand and stockpiled it along the beach hard by the seawall.  This positioning of the sand was dictated by the "as built" requirement spelled out in the specifics of the permit.

Before we can spread this newly acquired sand along the beach to the high tide line via a second permit (the permit we currently use to grade and rake the beach), we must have the final approval of the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection that both the "as dredged" and the "as built" requirements of the new permit where met to the letter.  We expect to have this final approval within days.

With this approval, we anticipate moving sand and manicuring the beach within the first week of June so that our association may enjoy the first phase of our beach restoration.

Wishing you all a fabulous summer!
