Pauline Serus Ogrodnik
Norwich - Pauline Ogrodnik, of Norwich, Giants Neck Beach, Niantic and Pompano Beach, Fla., died on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at her home on Sherwood Lane in Norwich.
On May 28, 1920, she was born in New Britain, Conn., the daughter of George and Frances (Rozanski) Serus.
She was raised in Norwich and was a graduate of the Norwich Free Academy class of 1938. Pauline was well known in the area having been the owner of the former Rotary Package Store on West Main St. in Norwich. She operated the store for twenty years until her retirement in 1984. After her retirement she enjoyed spending time at her summer home at Giants Neck Beach in Niantic and spent the winter months in Pompano Beach, Fla.
In November of 1942, she was married to Joseph Olenkiewicz until his death on Feb. 22, 1964. On May 17, 1980, she was married to Raymond Ogrodnik, who survives her.
For many years she was an active member of St. Joseph Church in Norwich.
In addition to her husband, Raymond, she is survived by her daughters, Joan (Olenkiewicz) DeStefano, and husband, Robert, of Preston and Paula Olenkiewicz of Norwich; brother, Carl Serus of Norwich; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Serus and sister, Frances Lenkiewicz.
The funeral will assemble at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 141 Central Ave., Norwich, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
