Ending a Great Year
Congratulations, Class of 2011! The 80th Annual Rye High School Commencement Ceremony was held on the field on Saturday, June 18, marking the end of these students' Rye education and beginning of their future journeys in college and the workplace.
Among the featured speakers at the ceremony were High School Interim Principal Dr. Jay Smith, Superintendent Dr. Edward Shine, Board of Education President Josh Nathan, Valedictorian Jasmine Woort-Menker and Salutatorian Stephanie Alimena.
The District also extends congratulations to the eighth grade graduates of Rye Middle School and fifth grade graduates of Midland, Milton, and Osborn Schools. During moving up ceremonies held by each building, graduating students were recognized for their years of hard work and accomplishments as they now prepare to enter the next level of education. | |

- The next Board of Education meeting will be held on June 28, at 8 p.m. in RMS Multi-Purpose Room.
- Opening day for students is Wednesday, September 7.

Staff Changes
As most of you are probably aware, Mrs. Patricia Taylor was appointed High School Principal and will have already begun this role when schools reopen in September.
The District extends its best wishes to Dr. Steven Cohen, who has announced his recent appointment as Superintendent

Staff Recognition
During the June 26 Superintendent's Conference Day, Dr. Shine announced Mrs. Dina Farewell as the 2011-2012 Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Farewell has gone above and beyond in her role as a guidance counselor at Rye Middle School since she was appointed in 1997, having made a difference to countless students and staff.
Many more special recognitions were shared during Superintendent's Conference Day. Dr. Shine praised and thanked the District's 2011 retirees: AnnMarie Cornacchia, Dino Garr, Peggy Gelman, Fred Illium, Stanley Laber, Nancy Maika, John Mazza, Wayne Poland, Anne Povella, and Patricia Ryan. In addition, 25 Year Pins were presented to Benedetto DiMaula, Susan Cicelsky, Susan Dickson, Lynn Ferguson-Mastalli, Mary Henwood, and Mary Gould. | |
