Rye-Harrison Football Game This Weekend

Saturday 10/16 is the Rye Garnets-Harrison Huskies football game, hosted by Rye at John Nugent Stadium.  The game begins at 2:00 pm; tickets are $5 (children under 5 and seniors with Gold Cards are free) and go on sale at 1:00 pm at both the Bridge and the Boston Post Road gates to the stadium.

Note: The school track will be closed on Saturday for the entire day, starting at 9:00 am.

Rye High Students Win Academic Recognition
 

Once again, our students' talent and hard work are reflected in the recognition they receive from national scholarship programs.  This past month, the following announcements were made (follow the links for more information):

178 Rye High School graduates and students have earned 2010 AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on Advanced Placement Exams.

Rye High School seniors Peter Julian and Benno SteinJulian and Stein rhs seniors have been named National Merit Semifinalists, achieving among the highest scores on the PSAT exam in New York State.

Six Rye High School seniors have been named National Merit Commended Students:  Justin Giallorenzo, Caitlin Hartnett, Eric Jonassen, Roxanna Pell, Jessica Roth and Jasmine Woort-Menker.

Besia Friedel RHS seniorSenior Besia Friedel has been named an Outstanding Participant by the National Achievement Scholarship Program.
"The Laramie Project" is Fall Play

A cast of more than 30 students and 16 faculty members will perform in The Laramie Project - a play that chronicles life in Laramie, WY, in the year following the torture and murder of Matthew Shepard.  The play was selected by the students, who wanted to make a statement as a school community against hate and prejudice.

What comes first - academics or athletics?  Rick Pound, athletic director, high school counselor and coach will present the importance of students knowing how to "package their assets" for the colleges they are interested in attending.

"Race to Nowhere" to be Screened at RHS

The new documentary film Race to Nowhere will be screened at Rye High School's Performing Arts Center on October 28, 2010 at 7:30 pm.  Admission is free of charge. 

Race to Nowhere examines our high-pressure culture from the perspective of several students.  It presents an important perspective that all parents and students who are in high school should consider.  A panel discussion will follow the film.
