School Closing/Delayed Opening Information
The Superintendent may delay the opening of school, close the schools, or dismiss students early when weather or other emergencies compromise student and employee health or safety.

With winter arriving soon, here's a reminder of where you can find weather-related school closing and delayed opening information.

A delayed opening or school closing announcement is usually made by 6:00 a.m.

If school is delayed or closed, you will find a prominent notice on the home page of our web site.

A notice can also be found on the two RCTV channels (Cablevision ch. 77 or FIOS-TV ch. 40), on Cablevision's News-12 Westchester, on the Journal News website (lohud.com), and with the following radio stations:  WFAS (103.9 FM and 1230 AM) and WHUD (100.7 FM).  In addition, a voice message can be heard on the District main number: 967-6100.

Should there be an early closing because of weather conditions or another emergency, parents will be notified via the school messenger phone system.

Note:  If no notice has been posted, then school is open and will start at the normal time.
New State Child Car Restraint Law in Effect Nov. 24
Child Safety Seat Saves LivesUnder a new state law, children must be restrained in an appropriate car seat until they are 8 years old.  Details of the law and FAQ's are available from New York State's "SafeNY" web site.

Please remember that seat belts are not designed for anyone under 4'9" and for this reason, without a carseat or booster, they do not protect young children.
Help RMS Feed the Hungry, Win a Concert
RMS students ask your help in donating canned food for area food banks during the month of November as part of a competition sponsored by 92.3-Now radio and the Tri-State Food Bank.

Collection bins are located outside the RMS main office.
Board/Community Communication
Improved communication is always one of the Board of Education's priorities.  This year, some new ways of sharing information have been initiated.

As an e-news subscriber, you now receive Board Notes - a top line summary of Board of Education meetings - on the day following each meeting.

We have also introduced several new features on our web site:
  • A "video on demand" feature that lets you watch Board of Education meetings on your computer.  You can find it under "District / Board of Education"
  • Announcements and news items on the home page
  • Three new links under the Community tab
    • Past issues of this newsletter
    • Links to stories about our schools that appear in the media
    • An "RCTV" link giving start times for all programming, including Board of Education meetings.  These cable listings are updated every Thursday
H1N1 Reminder
While we have not yet seen outbreaks of the flu here in Rye, that's not the case in neighboring communities.  Please remember to teach your children to frequently wash hands, and to cough and sneeze into the crook of their arm.   If your child has flu-like symptoms  please keep him/her home from school until he/she is free of fever (without medications) for 24 hours.  Follow this link for more information on H1N1 and the H1N1 flu shot.
