Board Committee Opportunity
 
The Board of Education seeks volunteers to serve on three 2009-2010 Board of Education committees: the Audit Committee, Facilities Committee and the Health & Safety Committee.  All residents are encouraged to apply.

High School Publications Win Awards
Zephyr 09 Cover
 
Zephyr, the Rye High School art and literary magazine, is a 2009 Gold Medalist and won All-Columbian Honors from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. 

In addition, the 2009 Rye High School Yearbook is a 2009 Gold Medalist with All Columbian Honors in concept and design from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and is a 2009 All American medalist with a mark of distinction in design from the National Scholastic Press Asssociation.

Congratulations to all of the students and faculty advisors who worked so hard on these publications.
Students Receive Honors
 
Rye High School seniors Angie Cho, Alexandra Springer and Ryder Tobin, have been named National Merit Semifinalists, achieving among the highest scores on the PSAT exam in New York State.
 
Nineteen additional seniors have been named National Merit Commended Students.  
 
162 Rye High School graduates and students have earned 2009 AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on Advanced Placement® Exams.
RHS Girls Soccer Ranked #6 in US

The Rye High School Girls Soccer Team was ranked #6 in the nation last week by the National Soccer Coaches Association, which maintains high school team records for all levels of schools throughout the country, both private and public.  The rankings change every week.  The team has only allowed 1 goal in 8 games so far this season.
Coach Dino Garr to be Honored
 
Garr, DinoDino Garr, Rye High School football coach, will be honored by the Frank McGuire Foundation in November for his inspirational leadership in both his school and our community.  He will receive a $5,000 grant in support of the Rye High School athletic program.
 
Coach Garr is one of five distinguished high school varsity coaches being honored.  They were selected because each exemplifies integrity, achievement and a continual quest for excellence from themselves and their athletes. 
 
The High School Coaches Awards Dinner will be held on November 18th at the New York Athletic Club.  Tax deductible tickets ($150) are available.  Call Robin Maffei at (212) 579-6973 if you are interested.
Rye FLES Teachers Win Award
 
Rye FLES teachers Dr. JoAnne Nardone, Ms. Lauren Gobbo, Ms. Vanessa Franco and Ms. Reina McGoldrick will receive the Sally G. Hahn Memorial Outstanding FLES Program Award at the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers' annual conference this month.  The honor is awarded annually to one or more outstanding school-based FLES programs in New York State.
