Greetings!
Days are getting longer, daffodils are peeking out of the ground. As we move into a new year taking stock is a valuable tool.
HydroSports started 2011 adding two new instructors, Ryan Thornton and Ken Rymal to our team, Matt Jenkins, Pat Kirkpatrick, Jeff Trembly and Mark Fischer. Divemaster candidates, Jay Olsen, Kristen Seabury and Jerry Heidel were beginning the transformation to PADI Professionals. Steve Camden had just opened the doors at Albany Scuba. Carol and Gregg Cline supported classes as Assistant Instructors. Mid-year "Scuba" Steve Anderson, Danielle and Sean Henthorn, William Seleen, Jim Jepsen and Brian Dirks signed on as Divemaster Candidates. Jim Smith and Keith Tienken completed DM programs and are actively supporting Albany Scuba programs.
During 2011 we issued nearly three times more Open Water Diver certifications, almost two times more continuing education certifications and three times more PADI Professional certifications than we did in 2010. We began a formal relationship with Western Oregon University to offer SCUBA through the Department of Health and Physical Education. Albany Scuba expanded to serve divers throughout the mid-Willamette Valley.
This growth would not be possible without the support of the entire education team, without training referrals and equipment purchases from our friends. Your enthusiastic support, recommendations and referrals are deeply appreciated.
What's on the horizon as we look forward to 2012?
Technical training. Rebreather training. More DPV diving. More regional and local dive opportunities. A broader range of specialty products and classes. Broader support for individual dive travel. Expanded university programs. More Discover Scuba Diving opportunities.
Your ideas and input provided valuable feedback for our efforts and programs. We encourage you to share your observations with us. Let us know where we are on target. Please let us know where we can better serve your needs.
This year will see further growth and expansion of services and products to meet your diving goals and dreams. You've seen additions like Sola lights and Doc's Proplugs (earplugs that help a diver equalize) and will soon see big additions like Inspiration Rebreathers (sales, service and training) and Cochran Dive Computers.

Our education team has room to grow. Ever wonder what it takes to become a PADI Professional and be prepared to share your love of diving? As a PADI Five Star Instructor Development Center, HydroSports staff provides all the instruction you need to begin assisting student divers in training through becoming a PADI Instructor.
Let us help you reach your diving goals and dreams! Visit or call soon!
HydroSports is thankful for our friends on-going support. Thank you for supporting our local business community!
Sincerely,

Diving Fatalities Workshop |
Hosted in April 2010 by Divers Alert Network® in Durham, N.C., the two-and-a-half-day program featured an international panel of authorities on dive medicine, training, and accident prevention and investigation, including cardiologists, epidemiologists and legal experts.
More than 100 people attended the event. The volume of information produced by the workshop was significant, but curious divers can now reap the benefits of the gathering.
