Clear Lake Dive UpdateSeptember 15, 2011
Clear Lake Dive Weekend is Here!
SeaDoo Explorer DPV
For the past week we've been watching a forest fire in the Cascades east of Clear Lake. The Forest Service advised the Clear lake Resort to close.

With a favorable change of the weather on Tuesday the fire has been nearly extinguished and the Clear Lake Resort will be reopening Friday September 16.

Come join Ken, Ryan, Mark and who know who else will come up for one or two days of diving. We have reserved a cabin so we can enter the water from the cabin area (close to the clear end of the lake).

Years ago I used the kick cycle distance estimation technique learned in my Advanced Open Water class to estimate horizontal visibility at Clear Lake. I calculated 287 feet of horizontal vis. A year later I took a 300 foot surveyors tape with me. At 225 feet I could read the hand signs for air pressure my dive buddy was signaling. At 300 feet, the limit of the tape, I could see him gesturing with his free hand but could not see the individual fingers representing air pressure.

We have room for three or four more divers in the cabin each night ($25 per night).

Clear Lake has over 300 feet of horizontal visibility on a good day! We'll be holding Dive Propulsion Vehicle and Altitude Diver briefings on Saturday and Sunday morning. Complete either specialty by participating in two divers (four dives to earn both specialties). Altitude Diver Specialty, $59. DPV Specialty $89. Special prices this weekend only!

Be sure to try the freshly baked cinnamon rolls at the lodge on Saturday morning!
