Summer Sightings September 2011

Greetings!

As we move toward the first foggy Fall morning and daylight hours slowly diminish I took time to reflect on the reasons for HydroSports growth this year.

The most important contributors to this year's growth in both student certifications and sales are HydroSports staff members.

With Matt Jenkins leadership HydroSports is now offering scuba certifications at Western Oregon University directly through the Department of Heath and Physical Education. The Sea Wolves Dive Club at WOU was restarted to support divers and potential divers at WOU.

Ken Rymal and Ryan Thornton have been inseparable team teachers for numerous classes and events this year. Ryan and Ken recently completed training as and have been recognized by PADI as Instructor Development Course Staff Instructors. Ken recently received his PADI Tech Instructor and Tri-Mix Instructor ratings. Ken's Rebreather Instructor rating is in the works!

Pat Kirkpatrick and Jeff Trembly have stepped up to the plate to lead weeknight and weekend classes. Pat is team-teaching with me at Willamette University this year. Jeff and Pat both bring decades of experience in a wide range of diving environments to student divers. WU SCUBA, the Willamette University Dive Club, organizes fun dives for student divers and Discover Scuba Diving experiences for WU students and faculty.

Steve Camden, a long time friend and instructor took the inspired step this year of opening Albany Scuba. Albany Scuba offers year round certification classes, equipment sales, air fills, gear maintenance and scuba services to divers in the Albany, Corvallis, Lebanon and Sweet Home region. As Albany Scuba grows, watch for Steve's staff to grow. Currently supported by Divemasters Keith, Holly and DMC Jim, Steve and Albany Scuba are becoming a hub for divers in the mid-valley.

Our Assistant Instructors, Carol and Gregg Cline lead with passion and support. Organizing REEF Fish and Invertebrate ID classes each year and assisting with numerous training events, Gregg and Carol enrich divers with their shared knowledge.

Our Divemaster team, Jay Olsen, David O'Neill, Jerry Heidel, Kristen Seabury, Scuba Steve Anderson, Keith Tienken, Holly Camden, Danielle and Sean Henthorn, Jim Smith, Jim Jepson, Brian Dirks and William Seleen round out our professional team. Divemasters are a critical link in the education and communication path for divers in training and certified divers as well. HydroSports and Albany Scuba are always looking for new team members. Speak to one of us to learn more about joining our team.

If you've had a great interaction with one of HydroSports staff members please share your experience. Post a note or review on Yelp, Google, Dex, City Search, Facebook or other social media. If you feel your experience is worthy of national acknowledgement, please share your experience with PADI directly. PADI members who receive complimentary letters are acknowledged quarterly in PADI's professional publication, The Undersea Journal.

Our goals are to help you reach your scuba diving and snorkeling dreams. Please speak with any of the team and let us know how we can assist you.

To all the exceptional team members who contributed to our first 17 years, mahalo nui loa, vinaka vaka levu! Your support, your energy and your passion set the foundation for our present and future growth.

HydroSports is thankful for our friends on-going support. Thank you for supporting our local business community!

Sincerely,

Mark Fischer

New UK Light
Cannon eLED
UK's newly designed Light Cannon eLED replaces the retiring Light Cannon HID, long considered the industry's leading dive light.

The new Light Cannon eLED's lumen output nearly doubles the older version with over 820 lumens, while also increasing burn time by an impressive 4 hours.

Additionally, the new Light Cannon eLED comes equipped with UK's pioneering "lumen booster" technology which removes more heat from the LED, increasing both lumen output and burn time.

The new Light Cannon eLED is also a more budget friendly dive light than its predecessor; the light retails for under $200 and can be used with both traditional alkaline or rechargeable batteries which offers further price savings.

The new Light Cannon eLED is available at HydroSports as are all UK products.
