Summer Highlights and Coming Events |
July 2011 and Beyond |
|
Greetings!
As we get ready to celebrate summer's arrival, let me take a moment to express my deepest appreciation for the support, loyalty and friendship you have all demonstrated to HydroSports over the years.
When I stood on the beach front of Boggy Sands Road on Grand Cayman in 1996 imagining my future I had no idea my dream of opening a dive shop would give me the opportunity to touch so many individuals, to empower so many explorers and adventurers, to change so many lives for the better and forever.
The journey has been and continues to be supported by a tremendous team of professionals. The contributions of the team are woven into the fabric of HydroSports and are an integral part of our vision.
We've traveled to distant corners of the world and to neighborhoods close to home. We've fulfilled dreams and inspired new generations of divers. We've faced adversity and pursued excellence.
As I look into my crystal ball I see an exciting future. The aquatic realm calls. HydroSports goal is to help each of you reach your diving goals and dreams.
Best fisches,
Mark Fischer

Dive Club Meeting: What's all the Fuss about Rebreathers?
Door Prizes: Diver Propulsion Vehicle and Altitude Specialty Certifications |

Lost Lake Camp and Dive
July 15 to 17 |
Located on the south slope of Mount Hood, Lost Lake provides opportunities for diving, camping, hiking, bird watching and engagement with the natural world.
No motorized boats of any kind are allowed on the lake so diving is very safe. The lake is at 3,143 feet of elevation so altitude planning is necessary. Surface water temperature is expected to be near 70 degrees F, a thermocline at 30 feet drops the temperature to 50 F.
To learn more about camping, day trips, directions, contact Dive Society President, Tara Batch or follow this link.

Diving Unlimited Demo Days August 12 to 14
Dive the Oregon Coast Aquarium in a DUI Dry Suit |
Diving the exhibit tanks at the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport is off limits to the public except for a three day window every August. Partnering with Diving Unlimited International and DUI Dealers in Oregon and Washington the OCA Volunteer Diver Team invites divers and snorkelers to explore Halibut Flats, Orford Reef and the Shark Observation Pool in the comfort of a DUI dry suit.
Tickets to three activities are available; an Eco-snorkel event Friday August 12; a Photo/Video Dive Workshop Friday August 12; a Demo Dive on Saturday or Sunday August 13 or 14. Tickets are purchased for specific events and times and are limited. Eco-snorkel tickets and Photo/video seminar tickets are very limited. Dry suit demo dives are $42.
Tickets for the events may be purchased at HydroSports in advance. All tickets include admission to the Aquarium for the day of the event and a barbecue lunch. All participants will be fitted for and will dive/snorkel in the comfort and warmth of a DUI dry suit. DUI travels with nearly 200 dry suits of all sizes and styles, dive insulation, boots, hoods and fins. Supporting DUI Dealers, like HydroSports, provide buoyancy vests, regulators, tanks and weights as well as professional staff to assist with everything from suit fitting, gear fitting, dry suit orientation dives, burger flipping and set up and tear down of the event.
Diving the Aquarium exhibits offer the best shore diving on the Oregon coast. Don't be left out! Call today, 503-304-5383.

Clear Lake Camp and Dive August 19, 20, 21If you've never seen 300 foot vis, you've never dove Clear Lake |
Each summer HydroSports makes a visit to the Clear Lake Resort near Santiam Junction. This year we'll be conducting Dive Propulsion Vehicle and Altitude Diver Specialty classes. A DPV is a great way to explore the lake underwater.
Snow water percolating deep into the lava fields of the Cascade Mountain Range seeps deep into the volcanic sediment below the surface. Clear Lake is a naturally formed basin fed by the eruption of the Cascade Aquifer. As this clear water spills out of the lake it forms the McKenzie River.
The volcanic basin which forms Clear Lake resembles what my friend Kris says is a moon-like surface, rolling fields of grey ash, volcanic cinder cones some of which break the surface and deep fissures from which the aquifer erupts. As long as we stay 20 to 25 feet above the ash bottom of the lake, visibility can reach 300 horizontal feet. If we disturb the ash bottom we create a cloud that will linger for hours.
Join us for dives Saturday and Sunday August 20 and 21 or venture out on your own August 19. Tent and RV camping is available at the south end of the lake. Cabins can be rented through Linn County Parks & Recreation. .
To participate in the Diver Propulsion Vehicle specialty class a confined water training session August 11 is required. Special prices for the DPV and Altitude Specialty classes will be in effect this weekend only: DPV Specialty (includes confined water training, two DPV dives and certification card) $89; Altitude Diver Specialty (includes instruction, two dives and certification card) $50. PADI Standards limit a diver to only two training dives per day at elevations above 1,000 feet. Clear Lake is above 3,000 feet.
