Jump Start Your Dive Year

February 2011

Greetings!

What are your dive goals for 2011? More time underwater? A class to increase your skills or comfort? Introducing more friends to the excitement of diving? Travel to an exotic destination? Upgrading your dive gear?

No matter what your goals and dreams HydroSports can help. During the past year our team has grown. Our instructors have earned new training ratings and can offer a wider range of certifications. We represent a wider and wider range of vendors. We're connected to travel providers world wide.

Two long term projects are now reality, offering a scuba class through the Department of Health and Physical Education at Western Oregon University and opening a dive center in Albany. Classes at WOU begin the Spring term 2011.

Albany Scuba LLC, owned by Steve Camden and Mark Fischer is in business and teaching classes at the Albany Community Pool. Steve's February open water class is nearly full and March is filling fast. You can reach Steve at steve@hydrosports.com or 503-508-5950. Watch for a new web site soon!

Our friends are the reason for our growth. Your continued support and loyalty are deeply appreciated.

What can HydroSports do for you today?

Sincerely,

Mark Fischer

Meet HydroSports Newest Instructor, Ken Rymal
Ken is a PADI OWSI also TriMix and Rebreather diver
Ken Rymal

Born in Deland, Florida, Ken's first dives were in a pond in Auburn, Alabama with the brother of a friend. Earning a NAUI certification Ken continued diving the springs and caverns of central Florida.

After a 10 year break from diving Ken's diving passion was reborn in 1999. Ken completed his PADI Open Water, Advanced and Rescue Diver certifications in a 6 month period. A Scuba Fair at Hood Sport and Dive introduced Ken to Garrett Weinberg. Ken's dive training took a sharp turn toward technical and rebreather diving. Ken went on to earn an IANTD Divemaster rating.

Diving throughout the Caribbean and Mexico, diving the Philippines and Micronesia and the Northwest from California to Alaska Ken has logged in excess of 500 technical open circuit dives and over 1600 rebreather dives on the Megoladon and Inspiration rebreathers.

As a trimix diver Ken has logged over 50 dives in the 325 to 350 foot depth range and 200+ dives beyond 200 feet. Ken is equipped to and regularly blends trimix at his home in Aloha.

Looking for a path to share his diving passion both with recreational divers and those divers wanting to move into technical and rebreather diving, Ken completed his PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor course at HydroSports in December and completed the PADI Instructor Examination in Seattle.

Ken's near term goals are to earn his PADI Master Scuba Diver rating and PADI Technical Instructor ratings as well.

HydroSports is excited to have Ken's enthusiasm, expertise and skills on our team. Come meet Ken on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at HydroSports.

Where was this photo taken?

Every day we left the resort, rounded the point and were met by a wild dolphin. who actively sought out our attention.

On one dive I held out my slate. Spot put his beak through the loop of the slate, took it to the surface and brought it back to me. Where was I?

Greetings!

The Salem-Keizer community lost two leaders recently. One violently. One to cancer. For one death was unexpected. For one death could be seen. Both lived lives filled with passion and outreach. Both were loved by their family, friends, students, co-workers and the strangers they touched.

Attending Lisa's memorial service this week I learned more about her life and contributions. Reading about Rose and speaking with her students and friends her impact on others continues.

Our lives are measured in the impact we have on others. We have opportunities daily. Watch for your next opportunity.

HydroSports mission, my mission, is to help each of you reach your diving goals and dreams. Where do you want diving to lead? How can I help?

What do you need to know to prepare to explore the underwater world beyond the recreational dive limits of both depth and time.

How do you prepare for a dive to 100 feet for 60 minutes on the Saskatchewan?

What's sidemount? What's trimix? What's extended range recreational diving?

Will a rebreather allow you to take closer photos of fish?

Find answers to these and all your technical and rebreather training questions Monday night, February 28 from 6 to 8 PM at HydroSports.

Our guest speaker will be Jon Daane, PADI Course Director and Technical Instructor Trainer.
