Holiday Highlights and Beyond!December 2010
Greetings!

Christmas FireplaceAs 2010 draws to a close allow me a moment to reflect on the good fortune HydroSports has experienced this year.

We've seen our staff grow. Jeff Trembly stepped up to become an Instructor; Carol and Gregg Cline earned their Assistant Instructor rating. Ryan Thornton, Colin Schilling, Alex Mott, Jay Olsen and Chris Savage completed Divemaster training. Steve Anderson, Danielle and Shawn Henthorn began DM training. This weekend Ryan and Ken Rymal are attending the PADI Instructor Exam, the final step to earning the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor rating. Pat Kirkpatrick and Matt Jenkins, PADI Instructors, contributed frequently leading classes.

HydroSports and Dive Northwest partnered to lead our first Medical Mission. We gathered and mailed dozens of boxes of materials to US service personnel through the Operation Love Boxes for Our Troops program. A team from HydroSports raised nearly $5,000 for breast cancer research and education by participating in Dive for a Cure.

Our customers earned certifications ranging from Discover Scuba Diving recognition, to Open Water, Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver ratings. Over 50% of our divers participated in continuing education courses. Emergency First Response and Divers Alert network courses were completed by many divers as well.

As 2011 moves closer HydroSports will be expanding our services. Our new facility in Albany, spear-headed by long-time instructor Steve Camden and Divemaster Mike Bovard, will begin operation and classes early in January. Classes in McMinnville will be planned.

Western Oregon University and HydroSports are in the final stages of implementing the first Open Water Diver class offered by the WOU PE Department. Students will be able to register for SCUBA just like they do any other PE class beginning the Spring 2011 semester.

I cannot express the level of appreciation I feel for the friendships, support and contributions so many of you have made this year.

Sincerely,

Mark Fischer

HydroSports Expands to Albany
Classes, air fills, equipment sales

Divers in the Mid Willamette Valley have not been served by a local dive shop for nearly 10 years. Divers in Albany, Corvallis, Lebanon and Sweet Home have had to travel to Keizer, Salem or Eugene for classes, air fills, equipment purchases and repair and rentals.

Enter Steve Camden, PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, Mike Bovard, PADI Divemaster, and HydroSports Dive and Travel, PADI Five Star Instructor Development Center. Borrowing a page from the Hewlett-Packard model, Steve and Mike will begin teaching classes January 4, 2011 in Steve's home office in Albany. Pool training will take place minutes away at the Albany Community Pool.

In his remodeled garage, Steve will have a variety of core equipment for sale, will be offering air fills (nitrox fills with one week turnaround). Rental equipment, repair services and full equipment selection and delivery will be supported by HydroSports Dive and Travel.

To kick off classes in Albany Steve and Mike are offering a special price for the first three months of classes. To register for a class, please contact Steve Camden, 503-508-5950 or [email protected]. LitterBoxCat owners!

Your help is requested. Bring me your empty kitty litter pails. I'll give them new life as weight buckets transporting weight to and from dive sites.

Medical Mission Fiji, May 4 to 14, 2011
Combine Passion and Compassion
Mike Litchfield and Sean Hanson treat a patient in Fiji.
Carrie Litchfield and Jim Jepsen assist Dr. Mike Litchfield, DDS. with a patient. Gina Jepsen prepares instruments for reuse.

Most people think of Fiji as an island paradise, but there are many children in area villages that are in tremendous need of medical, dental and optometric care.

Join a team of medical professionals on a journey of compassion and passion. The 150 children of Koro Village, Fiji, have limited access to medical, dental and optometric care, screening and services. Our goal is to bring  doctors, dentists, optometrists, nurses and their support staffs to Fiji May 5 to 14, 2011. You need not be a medical professional to join the team. Your desire to assist will be put to good use.

During our stay each team will dive the Great Astrolabe Reef in the mornings and conduct four afternoons providing screening and treatment for the village children and family members. For further details and trip price click HERE or call 503-304-5383.

Greetings!

As the Christmas shopping season becomes more hectic, please remind your friends, family and colleagues of the importance of supporting local businesses.  Use your emails and social networks to promote this message.  As a Willamette Valley resident, this encouragement will mean a lot coming from you.

Businesses outside the Salem region do not support our schools, transportation infrastructure or charitable social services.  Purchases from outside businesses -- rather than local ones -- increase the financial load at home.  When you choose to "shop local," you're buying where dollars are more likely to come back to your family, your friends and your neighbors.

HydroSports is thankful for your on-going support.  Thank you for supporting our local business community!

HydroSports has been serving the Pacific Northwest diving community since it's incorporation in 1994. Our goal then as now is to help you reach your diving goals and dreams. You honor us with your continued support and referrals.

Your privacy is important to us. We never sell, rent or share your contact information. If you wish to be removed from our email list please use the safe unsubscribe link below.

Dive Trip!

Casino Point Aquatic Life
Diving the kelp forests of Santa Catalina Island, 26 miles across the sea from Long Beach, California, is one of the easiest and most interesting experiences on the US west coast. Located near the intersection of "tropical" and northwest critter zones, the marine life is abundant and diverse.
