Summer Dive Plans Start Soon
Hood CanalMeet us at the Big Cliff Reservoir at 1 PM Saturday, June 27, for our first Big Cliff Drift Dive of the season. Big Cliff is the first reservoir east of Salem, on Highway 22, about 45 minutes from I5. Filled by water exiting the Detroit Dam, we drift down a 3/4 mile long channel exiting at the boat ramp. Bring snacks, two tanks, water and about four pounds less than your Hood Canal weight. Call HydroSports for directions or to rent gear for the day. My FAVORITE pizza is found at Giovanni's Pizza in Mill City. Let's stop for a large Sicilian with extra sauce!

Join us July 11 and 12 for a Deep Diver Specialty Class in Hoodsport. You'll learn how to shoot lift bags, do free ascents and descents, manage nitrogen narcosis, estimate your air consumption rate and become better prepared to dive between 60 feet and the recreational dive limit.

July 19 we're holding our Annual Scuba Rally at the Big Cliff Reservoir. The Scuba Rally is part underwater treasure hunt, navigation course, skill challenge and barbecue rolled into a day of fun. The $10 entry fee includes a barbecue lunch, two free air fills at HydroSports and an opportunity to win a door prize provided by our vendors. Please bring two cans of food which we'll donate to the Marion and Polk Food Share program. Register by calling or visiting HydroSports.

Have you ever wondered what diving on the moon would be like? Join us for a Full Moon Dive at Clear Lake and watch your shadow glide over the ash bottom of the lake. We'll be diving during the day August 8 and will start our night dive about 9 PM. With horizontal visibility of nearly 300 feet Clear Lake is a unique dive experience. Bring your family, rent a row boat, hike around the lake, spend the weekend camping.

Watch for impromptu dives all summer long!

Cylinder Specials

Faber Steel Cylinders are on sale until July 31

Faber uses a hot spray galvanizing treatment that does not require dipping the steel into a 700 degree bath of zinc. The molten zinc is sprayed onto the cylinders after they are heated!!

After the cylinder is galvanized, it is painted with white epoxy paint and then clear coated with epoxy. WHY epoxy and not just regular paint?? The truck business has been using epoxy based paints for years, this gives you an incredibly durable finish.

This THREE step process makes for a VERY durable finish and prevents flash rust that may occur after hydrostatic testing. (Courtesy of Faber Cylinders)

of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife about Invasive Species in Oregon.
Rick will speak about both fresh water and salt water issues.

30% Savings End June 21. Don't Miss the Boat!

Zeagle Systems is celebrating it's 30th anniversary by offering 30% savings on BCD's and Regulators and 15% savings on computers and dry suits. All orders must be placed by June 21, 2009.

Zeagle manufactures it's BCD's and regulators in Zephyrhills, Florida.

Zeagle's founder, Dennis Bulin, manufactured parachute harnesses until he founded Zeagle. The fit, function and durability required of a parachute harness is engineered into each Zeagle BCD.

Choosing to build regulators in-house means that Zeagle can directly control every aspect of quality that goes in to their products.

Located close to the US Navy Experimental Diving Unit gives Zeagle an opportunity to receive input from this elite group of divers and scientists.

HydroSports has represented Zeagle for many years. We believe in their products. Come learn why.

The Comparative Cost of Scuba Diving...

Many people mistakenly believe learning to scuba dive is far more expensive than participating in other outdoor sports. A recent survey by Leisure Trends Group compared the cost of becoming a certified scuba diver to the cost of beginning skiing lessons and equipment and the cost of gearing up for a three day camping trip.

While the camping cost of entry is lower than the scuba cost of entry the difference is relatively small. The skiing cost of entry is only $150 less than the scuba cost of entry. Compare a lift ticket to a $5 air fill and the difference disappears quickly.

The thrill, excitement, discovery, connection to nature and opportunity for self-discovery offered by scuba is huge.

Reach out to your friends, family members, co-workers and associates. Help HydroSports grow the scuba community.

DUI Demo Days at the Oregon Coast Aquarium...

I've just learned that registration material for the DUI Demo Days is being mailed to HydroSports tomorrow.

Demo Days is an opportunity to test dive a DUI Dry Suit in the exhibit tanks at the Oregon Coast Aquarium on August 22 or 23. A photo seminar and Eco-snorkeling program will be conducted on Friday August 21. The Eco-snorkeling program is open to children and non-divers.

Diving Unlimited brings a huge truck packed to the gills with dry suits, undergarments, boots, hoods, etc. The test dive fee is $40 and includes admission to the aquarium for the day, a test dive in one of the three exhibit tanks in a DUI dry suit (all gear is provided), a barbecue lunch and a DUI Test Diver Hat (test divers received a hat each year for the past three years). The photo seminar fee is $100 ($85 for aquarium members) and all photo equipment is provided.

Six DUI dealers will be supporting the event this year so each shop will have a limited number of test dive times to sell. I hope to have information on Tuesday next week. Call as soon as possible to take advantage of this once a year event.
