Overcoming Sectarianism in Tibetan Buddhism: Teachings of Domo Geshe Rinpoche
Selection 1

Did everyone receive one of these pictures?  Please put this on your altar in order to remember the teachings that I have given here regarding the nature of Second Buddhas.  This represents the view that I have discussed with you regarding the importance of placing Lord Buddha Shakyamuni at the head of our lineage.  If we all see it that way, no one would ever enter into sectarian difficulties.

Je Tsongkhapa and Guru Padmasambhava

Second Buddhas as Regents of Shakyamuni Buddha: Overcoming the Sectarian Divide.

Second Buddhas as Regents of Shakyamuni Buddha
 Overcoming the Sectarian Divide

Selection 2

In a new country, in a time of new transmission, we should all work hard at reducing sectarian confusion and be alive to Lord Buddha Shakyamuni and The Great Ones, including Je Tsongkhapa, Padmasambhava, Marpa, and others who began some of the great teaching lineages.

The invocation of the Second Buddhas, I would very much like to see this prayer go out to others also.  I give permission to you to disseminate this prayer, and please also include my name because, actually, my name is still being used from the previous incarnation as a model of a sectarian guide, which I hated.  I hated it then, and I hate it now.  I did not have good enough English in my previous incarnation (to do something about it), but now (I do).  Not everyone will understand or make that connection, but if you do disseminate this to friends in that way, that is good.  Many people think that (sectarian) way. This needs to change. Let us recite (the new prayer) together.
  Invocation of the Second Buddhas

by Domo Geshe Rinpoche

Second Buddha, King of Dharma, Je Tsongkapa, I bow before you.
Please come from your abode in Tushitas sphere.
Maitreya's paradise, highest realm for those fortunate to serve.
Please come before me to receive offerings both actual and     visualized.
Bless me with the non-conceptual mind of Mahamudra.
This is the primordial mind.
This is the face of the real Guru.

Second Buddha, King of Dharma, Padmasambhava, I bow before you.
Please come from your abode in Copper mountain paradise.
Inner paradise, miraculous in size with massive light.
Please come before me to receive offerings both actual and visualized.
Bless me with the non-conceptual mind of rigpa.
This is the primordial mind.
This is the face of the real Guru.

Second Buddhas, please turn the wheel of the dharma
as regents of Great Shakyamuni Buddha.
Cause our minds to turn toward the dharma and
bless us to remain diligent in practice.
May the great ones never abandon us,
but always remain close by our side.
Please usher in the age of miracles where we will
perceive you with the inner eye of wisdom.
Bless our mindstream to remain free of sectarian confusion
And may your deeds continue forevermore.

Second Buddhas as Regents of Shakyamuni Buddha:
Overcoming the Sectarian Divide

Selection 4

The concept of Second Buddhas is important to us, as there are others who not only tolerate other traditions, but in fact see (those traditions) equally as Great Ones. Having said that, we here at White Conch follow the Gelugpa tradition, of which the founder is Je Tsongkhapa. So we must be very clear that, until such time as I am requested to become a lineage holder in another lineage, I remain exclusively Gelugpa.  That is where I am.

Words of my Perfect TeacherIn the "Words of My Perfect Teacher" by Patrul Rinpoche, we read "Vast skill and means, the attitude of the secret mantrayana, the torch of the three methods says of the secret mantrayana: It has the same goal, but it is free from all confusions.  It is rich in methods and without difficulties.  It is for those of sharp faculties.  The mantra vehicle is sublime.'   That means that the mantrayana can be entered by many different routes.  It contains many methods for accumulating merit, wisdom, and profound skillful means."
