Rinpoche at Nalanda among cosmos
Precious Gems from Domo Geshe Rinpoche

 Volume No.2

Jan - Mar, 2008

Happy 2008 everyone! We hope many of you joined us on New Year's Eve as we offered Prayers for World Peace.

Winter retreat in NM was wonderful! Rinpoche told us repeatedly that the "hidden" agenda of retreat was to make us unquenchable in our determination to achieve the transformed state, not for ourselves, but for others. May all arise unshakable bodhichitta, the precious mind of enlightenment!

Those who are not used to the desert marveled at how the lights of Albuquerque twinkle at night. There is a large building with green lights on making it appear as though Albuquerque created a Green Light thangka every night just to welcome White Conch.

Once you put salt into water, it doesn't have choices whether it's going to be salty water or not.  It definitely will arise as salty water. Like that, you are currently in a form that you cannot help being. You wish to be different than you are. In fact, many people pretend to be different than they are, but they still can't help being them.  The Buddhist path is to give you methods to help you genuinely change so that you can't help being an enlightened being.

What I'm going to tell you now has nothing to do with Buddhism. I tell you this carefully, that you are not the one you think you are, and you are not alive in the way you think you are. In fact, you are not even the one that is alive.  There is another kind of living being that is alive on another level of reality and it is not a human being. It holds no passport to any country; it doesn't speak English, and it doesn't hold the same values that you do - and that is the real you. You are its emanation into the human realm. At the time of your birth, it emanated its life force into the union of your mother and father. Your entire life is spent in this form. Your body is here (indicating a location) and this is the real you (indicating another location) and this is the communication by which you are connected to your actual being. Like that, you remain in a state your entire life of this form. Why would it do that? Why would it want to emanate into the human realm? Is it some kind of voyeur? No. It had no choice.

On its evolutionary journey from almost beginningless time it has been in many other forms. And each time, at the end of the lifespan of that form, it withdrew into itself and began a kind of meditation. Later we will talk about the various dissolution processes (that occur at the time of passing). However, this meditation - how did it go? Did it answer the questions? It compulsively emanated into the human realm in order to answer some questions it had because it's not perfect. And so it had experiences, it had information, it had lessons, and you are its latest attempt at answering those questions. So how's it going? (laughter). It doesn't belong to you. You belong to it. It never belonged to you. At the end of life, after having withdrawn its life force, it begins a kind of special meditation. It is an energetic being, so it didn't care what kind of car you drove. It didn't care about any of those things. It wants to know - the reason why it had to emanate did it solve its problem, or did it help? (Rinpoche demonstrates actual being withdrawing energy from human life into itself and asking question)  No? Gotta do it again. (Demonstrates emanating its life force again into new life.) This is part of helping you to understand reincarnation.

Feb 7, 2008     Losar Tashi Delek (Happy Tibetan New Year, 2135)

Like a marathon runner, everybody is able to eat the spaghetti dinner the night before. But when it comes to the marathon race, who will drop out? Who will drop out at which point? Who will become exhausted? Disillusioned? Who will say, "It's not worth it?" And who will finish the race?

Even among the bodhisattvas, (who are) enlightened beings; there are bodhisattvas who reach the end of their potential before (reaching) perfection, and that is the end of their path.

Part of the work that we do intensively during this retreat will make you unquenchable in that desire to never give up. The only way that can happen, is by achieving and entering into states of mind that are associated with bodhichitta. It is the only way! It actually has nothing to do with you. You want to become enlightened, yes! You want to have experiences. You want to stop suffering. Of all the many good ideas that are presented to you, which one of these wonderful ideas will it take to make unquenchable in your desire to achieve the transformed state - not for your own sake, but for the sake of others?

Dec 29, 2007 Motivation to Complete the Path,
from the Diamond Mind Winter Retreat, CD and MP3

As you may have guessed, it is the Tibetan New Year. the year 2135. This holiday was the most joyous of the Tibetan calendar. Gifts were exchanged, special meals were prepared, and celebration continued for several days.
Rinpoche has completed her teaching visit to California, and is currently en route to her home in Wisconsin. Many sangha members wished her a safe trip and sent her off in the auspicious manner from California, and we hope to have sangha members to give Rinpoche an auspicious welcome to Neillsville on Feb 9th. Please contact Ngawang Thekchen if you know you can come this weekend to Neillsville. It will assist us to plan for meals.

Everything that you do in this world, should be about the two primary lessons:

1) learning about true compassion or
2) learning how to get along with others.

To a larger and larger extent, the activities you are performing that seemingly have nothing to do with these two (lessons) should be integrated. For example,  during your work day seeing those that you work with as being your own personal laboratory in learning how to get along with others.  Not just learning how to get along with others, but actually becoming the person who is able to get along with others. Learn this carefully. Even though you are all kind and nice, and very friendly people, you still don't really know how to get along with others. I say that as a blanket (statement). I am not saying that as a criticism, but I am saying that there is still a lot that can be learned. When you perfect what you are already pretty sure that you know, there will open another area - a higher order of getting along with others.
