How to Pray for World Peace reeds at Tso Pema
Selection 1

In general, prayer is a very powerful method to promote peace in the world and in your home. Whatever prayers you are doing, and your meditation practice, has a purifying effect on the world. Of course, the more skillful you become, the more your prayers are activating something valuable.

In Asia, people go to professional pray-ers and say, "Would you pray for me?" In the west, you have an innate feeling of competence in your ability to pray carefully. This is good. However, most of you do not have deep yogic training and you are very busy people. You don't have an infinite amount of time to learn how to do it well. There is an energetic frustration in knowing that you are a capable being inside, but something is preventing you from reaching that. So how can you make your prayer time for world peace dynamic?

Who are we when we pray for world peace? We are an activist of a different kind - someone who believes it is possible. When we pray together for world peace we enter a group harmonic that can have a much stronger impact.

Welcome the New Year Praying for Peace

White Conch goes into winter retreat tomorrow. Even if you cannot join us for retreat, you can join us on conference call on New Year's Eve as we pray for world peace using prayers from many world traditions (Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, African and Native American to name a few.) Students of White Conch in the area are invited to join us in person on New Year's Eve for the World Peace Celebration (even if you are not attending the retreat), and may arrange to stay that night at the retreat center if you wish. Overnight rooms cost $29. I will monitor e-mail daily, so let me know as soon as you know you want overnight accommodations. Rinpoche will give a special teaching on Jan 1st appropriate for both the retreatants and over night guests titled: Fresh Bread out of the Oven of Becoming. (The morning teaching will not be on conference call.)

We are delighted that Rinpoche's friends, RainbowHawk and WindEagle, have accepted her invitation to come as our honored guests and speak to the retreatants about their important work, which focuses on teaching peace. Rinpoche will also teach briefly and then she will lead us in the peace prayers.

conference call: 712-432-1699, access code: 956210#

The celebration will begin at 9:00pm PST; 10:00pm MST; 11:00pm CST and 12:00am EST on New Year's Eve

At the end of Prayers for World Peace

HHDL
Long Life Prayer for His Holiness the Dalai Lama

At this auspicious time, we will end prayers for world peace by offering the long life prayer for His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Traditionally, it is repeated three times.

In the pure land by snow mountains surrounded
Tendzin Gyatso, Great Lord of all Compassion
You are the source of bliss and aid unbounded
Remain, we pray, that all might be awakened

May all living beings, who are perfection itself and do not know it, find the best of paths and preparation for entry into that understanding.

May all who prepare carefully toward that understanding make the great wish to be of profound benefit to all living beings.

May all who aspire to be of benefit find the best of training.

May all who find the training finish and integrate it with profound wisdom without taking personal gain.

May those accomplished beings, trained and ripe in wisdom, be allowed to work for the benefit of living beings.

May living beings listen carefully.

May all living beings, who are perfection itself and do not know it, find the best of paths and preparation for entry into that understanding.

We are looking at this in a gentle way. We aren't speaking of specific issues that threaten world peace, because it could stimulate anger. Anger harms your ability to be effective in praying for world peace. It will harm your ability to go to the level that we are going to be working at to heal and mend. Activist communities can become angry, and it damages their effectiveness. We literally have to hold anger away so we can get past that energetic block. You can entrain people to your anger.

What is our motivation when we pray for world peace? To reduce suffering. To repair a hurt, so that it does not become a cause for other hurts. To invite all living beings to gentleness and kindness. To enter into a place where we do not harm others. You can be harmless and powerful.
