Welcome and Thank you for Joining us! Hope you are having a great summer!
We have some GREAT new locations to visit in August. It's time to take a break and come out to play!
Aloha
Welcome and Aloha to all our Single Gourmet Hawaii members and friends! We are aware of the economy these days, and we are all trying to conservative our money. That's why we are taking care in choosing dining locations that are pretty affordable. SGHI is trying to carefully choose locations that have reasonably prices, as well as, menu items for the veggie or veggan folks, reasonable parking prices, yet are unique and fun.
Upcoming events include: A great Italian Restaurant in Waikiki, a wine bar at the Honolulu Design Center, as well as their Stage restaurant, plus many of our event sites have entertainment as you dine. We also offer events in various communities and locations near your work or home so it is convenient.
The response has been great for our special $7 reservation discount; so we will continue it for one more month! So even if you are not a member of SGHI be sure to come out in August to take advantage of it! Please call us to make arrangements for any event of your choice and we will give you all the details. If you are a member of SGHI why not give a friend a chance to try a SGHI event with you? Call us to set up a guest pass for a friend or family member for just $7! Just let us know by phone call or email so we can set it up!
FYI You are not a member if you have just signed up for these newsletters. Become a SGHI member now! Just sign up on our web site. If you have not signed up for a full year, you might consider it to save you some money! Also, we can accommodate those who are not computer fans. Please give us a call to talk about it!
Just a reminder: We need everyone to understand they must sign up for events at least a week ahead of an event to help us better schedule with our event sites for reservations, etc. Please sign up under the EVENTS tab on our website. Sorry, we can not allow members to just drop-in to attend any event. It isn't fair to those that have signed up in the regular way.
Why not give a SGHI gift membership certificate to a single friend! Just let us know by phone call or email and we can supply one for you! We can even email one directly to your friend with a greeting from you!
We want to hear from you! Email us with your thoughts and ideas. Let us know what you like, and give us ideas on how to improve our dining club. It's your club! We want to fill it with your Aloha!.
Mahalo and Great Dining Moments are Ahead!
Julie McBane - Event Manager

| FYI |
We want you to know that Single Gourmet Hawaii is not a singles club! That's right, it is not just for people who are unmarried, etc. Our hope is to encourage people, even if they are married, to join us for an event. If you like food, eating out and meeting people, or just curious about local restaurants then please join us! That is what we are all about.
Come have some fun and try a
new restaurant as well!

Some one said: Dined here recently with friends in their lounge area overlooking the harbor and had their fabulous oysters rockefeller, garlic chicken, calamari and fried rice, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEIR FIRECRACKER UNROLL!! Their specialty drink for the evening was ginger mojitos, which totally rocked! The food was amazing and the prices were reasonable. What a great spot.

| Fun Upcoming Events in Waikiki! |
We Encourage You to Rediscover Waikiki!
It is interesting that locals just no longer come to Waikiki. SGHI is working with the Conchita Malaqui, the General Manager of the New Waikiki Beach Walk, to help change that. With her help we will be creating special events to get everyone out there to rediscover all the unique and new Waikiki restaurants. She may even throw in a special room rate at Embassy Suites Hotel so you don't have to drive all the way home after one of our events! We know affordable parking, which is often the problem in Waikiki, is being worked out as well. So take a second look at the new locations we are starting to add to our "must do" list!

Maxine's Mango Chicken Triangles From Terry Trelli
1 cup cooked diced chicken 3 cups sliced ripe mangoes 3/4 cup sugar 1/3 cup water 1 teaspoon lemon juice 1 teaspoon cinnamon Dash nutmeg 1 tablespoon tapioca 3 tablespoon cornstarch 3 tablespoon water 1/2 cup butter melted 1 box phyllo pastry
Cook the first 8 ingredients over medium high heat, stirring occasionally until mixture starts to boil. Mix cornstarch and water. Add to mango mixture and stir well. Set aside. Cool.
Follow defrosting instructions on phyllo box. Unroll phyllo. With long or 17"side facing you, cut phyllo into four strips approximately 4-by-12" in size with pastry scissors. (Be careful because phyllo is fragile.) Brush a sheet of phyllo with butter, top with another sheet, and continue to brush with butter until you have 3 layers.
Place about one heaping tablespoon of the mango in the corner of the pastry. Fold into a triangle and place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar. Makes 20 pupu.
