Upcoming events include: Italian, Wine Tasting, A Holiday Boat Parade, A City Lights Tour on a Trolley and pau hana at the new club HUSH!
Hey Waipahu, Wahiawa, Ewa area members...I found an interesting Thai Food place in Pearl City for you to try. From the exterior it's nothing special, but inside it holds surprises!
Here comes the Holiday Season. Why not give a SGHI gift membership certificate to a single friend! Add it to someones Christmas Stocking! Just let us know by
phone call or email and we can supply one for you! We can even email
one directly to your friend with a greeting from you!
FYI If you have been waiting to becoming a SGHI member now is the time to sign up. Take advantage of our 2008 membership prices by becoming a member before the end of the year/ This will lock in the 2008 membership fee because NEW members will be paying more for membership in January 2009! SGHI Members can also save by converting to a 1 year membership!
Just a reminder: We need our members to understand they must sign up for events at least a week ahead of an event to help us better schedule with our event sites for reservations, etc. Please sign up under the EVENTS tab on our website. Sorry, we can not allow members to just drop-in to attend any event. It isn't fair to those that have signed up in the regular way.
Tell Your Single Friends: Now be sure to tell at least one single friend about Single Gourmet Hawaii, or why not treat a friend to an event as a guest for a special price this Holiday season for only $5! We would love to have them join one of our events to check us out before joining. Maybe you have someone visiting you from the Mainland, come join us for an event, it's a great way to celebrate with a group. This special guest pricing is to help introduce SGHI to your friends. Guest must accompany the member and limit of 3 times for the same guest. Member must give us a call or email SGHI prior to event to reserve the space.
We want to hear from you! Email us with your thoughts and ideas. Let us know what you like, and give us ideas on how to improve our dining club. It's your club! We want to fill it with your Aloha!. Mahalo and Happy Holidays!

October's most successful event had to be House Without a Key and Jazz Night!
What
a beautiful evening with a great group of members. Though light on the
men folk, everyone had a great time. Wonderful dinner, great
entertainment, not to mention the warm tones of Jazz to top off the
evening. You REALLY missed out not attending this one guys! Believe it or not,
House Without a Key does not accept reservations! A bit tricky for our
large group, but we managed without much trouble, even on a Friday
night!

Single Gourmet Hawaii Owner and Manager a Mystery!
Have you had an opportunity to meet Dorothy Mack, the owner of Single Gourmet Hawaii, and Julie McBane the Event Manager and Coordinator? We often come to the events for the first hour just to meet you.

Julie: I took one look at Single Gourmet Hawaii and saw such a strong possibility of it being successful here in the Islands, I knew I wanted a new career with this progressive, creative and successful company. Single Gourmet Hawaii is a real pleasure in my life and I love representing them. Having had my own business has given me a wealth of knowledge about people, and working in the local community has given me the skills needed to help make this company triumphant, and I'm having fun doing it. Having experience in photography, retail and commission sales and having my own business as a professional performer for 23 years has given me a knack for working with people. With such a varied background of teaching, lecturing and touring as a performer, as well as, experience in coordinating events for Military Officers, VIP's and Diplomats, well let's just say suddenly everything made sense.
I think Single Gourmet Hawaii provides a great service and being single myself really has it's benefits now. I look forward to meeting every one of our members!
Dorothy: I brought SGHI to Hawaii because it's a great idea for singles and it looks like you all agree with me. I am so glad we have made it work in Hawaii. Plus, we have so many great restaurants to choose from here. In time maybe we can even do outer islands events, boat trips, and more combination events with other groups. Thank you for making The Single Gourmet Hawaii dining club the talk of the town! It's a dream come true for me.
Have a great Holiday Season We look forward to meeting you all at our events. Just remember you don't have to dine or celebrate alone when you can dine with us! Happy Holidays everyone!

SALSA DANCE CLASS A BLAST!
A Lot of Fun and Laughs!

Know what it feels like to have 2 left feet? If not, try a dance class on for size. What a challenge. Dance class, which started October 4th included 6 of our members. All unfamiliar with the steps, and we have tripped, flipped and kicked up our heels to a good start on the Salsa. All non-dancers are welcome here. You can join dance classes at Salsa No Ka Oi and see what it's all about! Beginning classes start often. Charlie is a great instructor and oh so patient with the nubees!

China Town's Duc's Bistro Saturday November 15thDuc's BistroOne reviewer said: The ambiance alone will put you in the mood for love! The Chinese lanterns and a giant dragon head hang from the ceiling while
a baby grand piano softly plays pop and jazz standards as
you enter this softly lighted and relaxed atmosphere! Duc's, pronounced Duke's, was primarily a French restaurant before the owner decided to tweak their menu by adding Vietnamese dishes. This East meets West theme is reflected not only in the menu, but also in the decor. A little restaurant in the Chinatown area. It's a quaint little place, and when you walk from the street into the restaurant you are transported into a completely different environment.
What's on the menu? Try their Olympic Chicken which was aptly named because this one deserves a gold medal. Tender chicken breasts lay submerged beneath a savory layer of sauce made of Chesapeake Bay Crab meat and mushrooms. How about some of the Vietnamese inspired dishes such as the Pan Fried Fish with Green Mango or Lamb Tenderloin with La Lot. You can order escargot were the perfect balance of butter, garlic, and mushroom. Try steak tartar, or braised white fish, tender venison with a red wine veal stock gravy, and the Thai inspired duck accompanied by a beautiful chili water dipping sauce with a subtle sweetness and a hint of refreshing citrus. Definitely a place for A Single Gourmet Hawaii Dining Club to venture to! Sign up below. Click here for the Single Gourmet Hawaii Web Site If you know of an event that we could attend with our dining club please tell us. We love to try new, and upcoming places. Though we don't go in for late night 'clubbing' much, we sure love to dine and wine! Drop us an email or call us to tell us about a new place we could look into!

Would you like a few of our brochures or a flyer to put up at your exercise class or community center? We would be happy to send some to you, just email or call Julie! The more members we have, the better our dining club will be!

This is Interesting...
|
Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavorings.
DO YOU KNOW the difference between margarine and butter?
Both have the same amount of calories.
Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.
Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.
Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!
Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.
Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than100 years .
And now, for Margarine...
Very high in trans fatty acids..
Triple risk of coronary heart disease. Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol (the good cholesterol).
Increases the risk of cancers up to five-fold.
Lowers quality of breast milk.
Decreases immune response.
Decreases insulin response.
And here's the most disturbing fact; HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!
Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC.
This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).
You can try this yourself:
Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:
* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)
* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weenie microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?
Share This With Your Friends (if you want to 'butter them up')!
