Over $25,000 was raised for BTFC at SkaterAid this year!

SkaterAid 2011The 7th Annual SkaterAid Skate & Music Festival broke all records with over $25,000 raised for BTFC on September 25th in Decatur, GA, where hundreds of skateboarders, artists, musicians, and supporters gathered. Local teen bands entertained attendees as they watched skateboarders in action and bid on cleverly designed skateboard decks in a silent auction that brought in over $12,000 alone.

SkaterAid was started in 2005 to celebrate the life of Ian Wochatz, a Decatur teen and avid skateboarder who was battling a malignant bSkaterAid 2011rain tumor. Following his untimely death on July 4, 2005 at just 15, Ian's family and friends vowed to honor and remember this great young man by continuing SkaterAid as an annual event to support other kids dealing with pediatric cancer. BTFC is grateful to have been the beneficiary of proceeds from the event since 2007, receiving over $90,000 for the Foundation's Butterfly Fund!

Many thanks to our SkaterAid friends and supporters for making this an incredible year. To view photos from the event, check out Alex Arnett's photo gallery and visit for more information.

Established in 1983 in Atlanta, GA, the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children was the first non-profit organization in the United States to focus on pediatric brain tumor disease. The Foundation's mission is: "To provide financial assistance, social support, and information for families of children with brain and spinal cord tumors; fund research projects that improve treatment options and search for a cure; and raise public awareness of the disease and advocate on behalf of children who are affected." BTFC serves children and families throughout Georgia and the Southeast. Our south Florida chapter, Christina's Kidz, is dedicated to helping Florida families.
