Colorado Capital Bank
Community Shares thanks Colorado Capital Bank for their support of e-Community.
CEO Alyssa KopfDear Friends,

I hope this message finds you well.   The February e-Community includes a link to our 2008 Annual Report.  Please take a few minutes to read about the scope of our work and impact in the community.  If you would like to be added to our mailing list to receive a hard copy report, please email your name and address to Courtney Calvin.

The annual report includes just a few of the faces from our giving community.  From our donors and worksite partners to our member agencies and those they serve, everyone plays a special part in our work at Community Shares.  Just as our incremental gifts add up to make a monumental difference, each person who chooses Community Shares as their partner in philanthropy adds to our changemaking power.

My thanks for your continued investment in our shared community.

 Sincere regards,

P.S. For every dollar we spent on the giving campaign in 2008, our community of donors invested more than $10 in Colorado nonprofit organizations.  In these difficult economic times, your gift to Community Shares makes an exponential impact.  Join our giving community by making a donation today!

"The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, is not only focused on helping the nation achieve a new energy future, but is also investing in our local community's needs today. NREL's annual employee-led workplace giving campaign provides an opportunity for our staff to support the agencies they care about most. We value this chance to come together to share with and care for those needing help."

- Dan Arvizu,
NREL Director and President,
Alliance for Sustainable Energy

Community Shares partners with more than 150 Colorado businesses each year to offer workplace giving campaigns. Employees are able to give a small amount from each paycheck to the charities and causes they care about most. The support of our business partners allows Community Shares to collect over $1.5 million each year with an average paycheck contribution gift of less than $1 each day.

"At Project Angel Heart, every dollar donated and every volunteer makes a difference. We depend on you - donating $10 a paycheck or whatever you can afford - to provide comfort food at its best for people battling life-threatening illnesses."

-Erin Pulling, Executive Director, Project Angel Heart

Community Shares is proud to partner with 112 effective and innovative Colorado nonprofit organizations. In 2008, we developed new Membership Excellence Standards in collaboration with our nonprofit organizations. While Community Shares has always vetted our nonprofit member agencies, we will be able to give donors even more information about how our member agencies are investing contributions. To create the Membership Excellence Standards, we have synthesized guidelines from the Colorado Nonprofit Association's Principles and Practices Guide, the Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance, the IRS, and Principles for Good Governance and Ethical Practice by the Panel on the Nonprofit Sector. We will work in partnership with our members to tell you more stories of their success in 2009.

"Donations from Community Shares translate into lifesaving services for thousands of animals who come through the doors of the Humane Society of Boulder Valley each year. Through the network of workplace giving, we connect with donors, volunteers and advocates who believe in our mission. Giving donors an easy way to make an impact has been a vital part of our success and ability to meet our community's needs."
