Greetings!

San Diego Beach Improvement Group is dedicated to supporting the beach community and making non-commercial improvements to this precious area of San Diego. We've started our endeavors in Mission Beach. So far in 2008 we have provided new volleyball nets for South Mission Beach and painted poles. We also wrote a letter of support to the City of San Diego in their efforts to obtain a large grant for recycling in the area. Each recycling container that have been installed so far are $1600 and the city has installed 50 as a pilot program with great success.

We have been exploring the need for bike racks in the Mission Beach area and took a short survey that resulted in a 50/50 response. We will need more documentation that bike racks is a real need in the area before proceeding with this project.

If you have any requests or would like Mission Beach to have a special amenity that would make an improvement for everyone's enjoyment, please contact us with your ideas.

Note: A recap of our money and meetings will be posted shortly.

Volleyball is where we started. This event is bringing volleyball fun back to San Diego in a BIG way. With
the support of Bud Light, CBVA, Sophie radio, Dig Magazine and many more this event had 43 6-man teams and the costumes were great!

Photos, video clips and a recap is now available at our event home page. Check it all out!....
Goals for 2009
bike boardwalk Finding a great project and more volunteers.
San Diego BIG was created to be supportive of the beach community and the city. I'm finding that the ideas that have been suggested by individuals are very important, but it really takes researching the idea, taking photos, doing surveys and getting feedback from the major groups that live and work in the area are equally important when getting approval to move forward on projects. Most project will need to come from the wish lists of local community groups and the city.

We will be having general meetings every other month starting in November to review projects suggested by the Mission Beach Town Council and San Diego Parks & Rec as well as plan for our two major events: The Summer Social Fundraiser and the San Diego SIX-MAN BeachFest. You can get involved by becoming a member, volunteering or just by showing up at our meetings. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, November 5th, 6pm at Gabbiano's Pizza. See Evite for more information.

This section is dedicated to people who have contacted us about people in need. If any of these stories touch your heart string, please go to the links to see how you can help.

Andre:
Andre (Dre) was in a terrible mountain biking accident on July 10th, that has left him paralyzed from the waist down. Friends had a fundraising party on Oct 11th and raised $6000 to help with equipment and services as well as support his family through this difficult transition. "Not bad for a night hang out with friends." Andre is a new father and just starting life with his family, so please visit his blog site and see if there is something we at BIG can do to help! "Andres (Dre) is doing well, working every day on positive energy and his rehab, however still very much confined to a wheelchair."
