Letter from the President
|
Dear Friends,
This chamber continues to provide incredible networking activities, programs highlighting successful business strategies, business counseling sessions and advertising/marketing opportunities month after month. We continue striving to research, analyze, and find solutions to issues that will make the fabric of this community stronger. Thanks to our volunteers and staff, we are becoming more and more effective in our mission to bring economic vitality to this region. For instance, during the last month we:
- Hosted a panel of top health care experts in north Texas for a discussion of rising medical costs and the impact of the large number of uninsured folks in this community
- Had over 130,000 hits on our website from individuals looking for information about Oak Cliff and who to do business with
- Developed an infrastructure plan to bring water, sewer lines and a new thoroughfare to the area around UNT-Dallas (Many thanks to Kimley Horn for their help and expertise)
- Helped bring the issue of regulating and inspecting "Group Homes" to insure that they meet minimum standards of care for their residents and conditions of their facilities to the City Council to consider
- Held nine different events used for networking and/or educating our area businesses on the best practices of a small business
- Presented recommendations for the rezoning of the Oak Cliff Gateway to help transform it into a more pedestrian-friendly and developable area
- Prepared and prioritized a list of major investments that the City of Dallas should consider for its upcoming bond election
- Met with City, State and Federal officials about the over-concentration of low-income housing in Oak Cliff and southern Dallas
- Continued efforts to extend the streetcar to Bishop and Jefferson
Many of you have asked how you can get involved to both help promote your businesses and to make a positive impact on Oak Cliff. The answer is simple: Show up! We have groups working on education, housing, public safety, zoning, networking and much more. Unless noted in our announcements, you do not need to be a member to attend. We simply ask that if you find value in what this chamber does, then please support us with your membership. As always, thank you for all you do for the Oak Cliff area! Let's continue working to make this the best place to live and work in North Texas. Sincerely. Bob Stimson, Oak Cliff Chamber President
