Dear Fan,
Summer is officially here in the Green Mountains and while our athletes' schedules slow down a bit, there are still a number of events and competitions being planned. These include our State Golf Competition, Irving Oil and Circle K Fueling Dreams promotion and Board of Directors Golf Tournament.
At our Summer Games competition in June, more than 800 athletes and partners competed in four sports at the University of Vermont and Hunt Middle School. We seem to always battle a bit of poor weather for our major competitions, but that doesn't impact our athletes. Each and every one has a smile so large that a bit of rain or wind could never cast a shadow.
Medical students from Boston University, Tufts Dental School and Harvard also joined us at Summer Games to learn more about our Healthy Athletes program. Nearly 20 students drove from the greater Boston area to work with our volunteer clinicians to help screen athletes and learn about working with people with intellectual disabilities.
Enjoy the warm weather while it's here. See you at our next event. Sincerely,
SOVT Staff

Key Bank Vermont City Marathon Recap
The Key Bank Vermont City Marathon is one of the largest events to take place in Burlington and we are thrilled to have a partnership with Run Vermont, the event organizer. This year, eight relay teams ran in the marathon to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Vermont. The teams raised more than $2,300! Thank you to each team.
In addition to the relay teams, Travelers Insurance hosted a chipping competition at the Burlington Waterfront during the race. In the photo below, Travelers presented SOVT CEO, Lisa DeNatale with a check for $2,000. Big thanks to Travelers for making Special Olympics Vermont their charity of choice for this event. |
2012 Summer Games
The Summer Games competition at the University of Vermont was our largest to date. More than 800 athletes and partners competed in four sports. The three-day competition kicked off on Friday, June 1st with a school unified bocce event, including 20 schools from Vermont.
On Friday night, Olympic gold medal snowboarder and Vermont native, Hannah Teter was our guest of honor. She formally announced the 2013 World Winter Games athletes, Leah Boardman, Larry Strobridge and Joshua Beaupre, who will represent SOVT in January, 2013.
Saturday and Sunday were filled with athletic feats in track and field, swimming, softball and bocce. Despite a touch of unruly weather, we heard nothing but good things from volunteers, sponsors and of course, athletes. Many thanks to everyone who made this competition so successful. Check out the results and photos. |
