UPCOMING TASTINGS

  Summer of Riesling

The Summer of Riesling is almost here. While we won't be selling all-Riesling only-Riesling, we will have many tastings featuring this (not-always-sweet-and-if-you-think-it-is-you're wrong) grape.

The first tasting session will be with Bloomer Creek, one of our favorite new Finger Lakes producers. Husband/wife owners/operators Kim and Debra will be pouring and  chatting.

THURSDAY

June 23rd

5.30PM - 8PM

D-DAY a.k.a. DAD DAY

a.k.a. FATHER'S DAY

Now that we have our liquor license, Father's Day is a lot more fun at Frankly Wines. (Yes, it's a retail cliché to talk spirits on Father's Day, but there's a good reason - it really does make a good dad gift.) We just brought in some great new bottles of scotch, rye and small-production cognac. And we've done the bottles proud with our fanciest ever front-of-the-store display.

If you're waiting until the last minute (we always do), stop in on Saturday, pick up a bottle of something dad-worthy, and try Nick's latest cocktail creation, involving bacon-washed rye whisky. Yes, you read that last bit right: Bacon. Washed. Rye.

SATURDAY COCKTAIL SIPS

Bulleit Rye and BaconThis Saturday, as a lead in to Father's Day, Nick is whipping a smoky, bacon-y whiskey-based cocktail. He's still hashing out the details, but from what he's told me, a maple-glazed bacon garnish may be involved. If you're in the neighborhood, this is a cocktail you don't want to miss. Stop in for a sip - and some inspiration for a last minute Father's Day gift his week.
Every Saturday: 4.30PM - 7.30PM

SCOTCHA FEW SUGGESTIONS FOR DADDY DEAREST

(Whisky + Scotch)

Bulleit RyeA few spirit selections for dear old (or not so old) dad. Click through to the Frankly Wines web store to learn more and buy.

Grants Blended Scotch Whisky: Good value scotch for dads on a budget. Or really, offsping on a budget who still want to get something nice. Price: $20.99

Auchentoshan Three WoodBulleit Rye Whiskey: Ever since we started to carry the Bourbon, customers have been asking "when are you going to get the rye?" Well, we got it! It's here! Price: $35.99

Single Malt Scotch:  Possibly the perfect blend of deliciousness (matured in bourbon, oloroso and PX sherry casks) and geek factor (one of only three distilleries in the Lowland.) Price: $69.99

Balvenie Portwood Single Malt Scotch 21 Year:  Portwood ageing adds a lovely red fruit and chocolate notes. A memorable and splurge-worthy bottle. Price: $169.99

COGNACA FEW MORE SUGGESTIONS

(Grower Cognac)

grower cognacYou may be familiar with Grower Champagne - little guys who keep their best grapes (instead of selling them to the big name houses) and make wines under their own labels. This is the same idea, just with Cognac instead of bubbles. The results are similar: wonderfully complex, unique bottlings that offer excellent value. Click here to buy.

Pasquet Couer de Grande Champagne (5-10 year-old): Hints of actual grape.  Extremely easy drinking, most approachable. Price: $49.99

Fevrier Cognac Fins Bois Saveurs: Butter pecan, maple, and pecan pie notes. Luscious, but well balanced. Price: $55.99

Pasquet Noble de Grande Champagne (10 - 19 year old):  A little "rancio", mushroom and exotic spice notes. For serious cognac drinkers who dislike fruity and grape notes and crave something robust, complex and intense. Price: $119.99

Glemet 1979:  Amazingly complex vintage cognac. Perfectly integrated and cohesive. A touch of smoke flavor. In the world of Cognac, you could spend much money for a lot less taste. Nick says this is the single best cognac he's ever sipped. He's probably right.  Price: $279.99
