What, you didn't stop by last Friday?  Well, you missed a fabulous Amarone.  This week, who knows (as of typing this, we don't even know) but it's always a good idea to pop in and see.

FRIs: 5.30 - 7.30PM

SATs: 3.00 - 5.00PM

WEDs: 5.30 - 7.30PM

WOLFTRAP
wolftrap label
Perhaps one of the best values in the shop is the Wolftrap, the value-priced wine from top-of-the-line South African producer Boekenhoutskloof.

We've had it on our shelves practically since the day we opened.  We thought of it as a Frankly Wines secret...until it showed up on the cover of this month's Wine Spectator.  Luckily, we had advance notice that this was happening, and were able to secure a very good supply of the Wolfy.

So, if you know and love the wine, rest assured you can continue to find it on the Frankly Wines shelves.  And if you've yet to try it, come by and pick one up.

At $10.99, it may be the only chance you have for a cheap date with a cover model!

Pig cartoonLAMB & HAM
Last year, it seemed like everyone shopping for Easter wine was eating either lamb or ham for their Easter dinner.  One year later, nasty economy aside, you're still probably going to be eating lamb or ham.  So with that in mind, we'll make the wine-buying part of your weekend easy and offer a few suggestions.

For those of you looking for Kosher wines to get your through the remaining days of Passover, we have a few of those as well.  If you're concerned that Kosher = yuck, rest assured, we've rounded up some good ones.

Enjoy!  -Christy

NEWS FLASH: Frankly Wines has a fully functional web site!
We offer all the services that big shops offer!  You can search our (practically) real-time inventory, read about our ever changing features and 3-Packs, or even order a Wine Class in a Box from our friends (a.k.a Nick) at Home Wine School.  We'll even get it delivered to your door in New York - or beyond!
Suggestions for Ham, Lamb & Chocolate Bunnies

chocolate bunnies

We'll start with the HAM:

Trust me here. Ham = salty and slightly sweet.  So the best match will cut through the salt and mirror the sweet.  A dry wine, when confronted with sweet food will just seem unpleasantly dry.  A little sweet goes a long way to making a really wonderful food pairing.  Still don't believe me?  I'll offer up a few other suggestions as well.

Donnhoff Estate Riesling 2007 (Nahe, Germany): Slightly sweet, beautifully balanced, a taste of one of Germany's masters for just $20.  Our #1 ham pick. $19.99

Chateau de Rouet 2008 Rose (Provence, France): So you won't trust me on the Donnhoff recommendation.  Than how about a rose?  This one just arrived and it's blend of subtle fruit and fresh acidity would work nicely. $14.99

George Descombes Morgon 2007 (Beaujolais, France): For those who absolutely insist on a red, we'll offer up a Cru Beaujolais from one of the region's top producers.  If you think Beaujolais is just alcoholic fruit punch, this one could change your mind.  $23.99

Now onto the LAMB:

Pinot Noir is the classic choice.  We have a number of good bottles at a range of prices, from $10 on up.  A few to consider:

South American: Cono Sur ($10), Jelu ($14)
New Zealand: Mud House ($19), Spy Valley ($27), Amisfield ($37), Felton Road Cornish Point ($65)
California: De Teira ($26), Brogan Cellars Russian River Valley ($60)

Alain Graillot/Thalvin Syrocco Syrah 2006 (Zenata, Morocco): Go completely non-traditional with a Syrah from Morocco.  Dark fruit + a touch of dried herbs and meatiness make this a surprisingly perfect lamb companion.  Trust me - it's good!  $16.99

Clos Bernarde Tete de Cuvee 1999 (Provence, France):  If Moroccan wine is a little too edgy for your lamb, try this Provencial red offers up dried herbs, red fruits, and soft, mellow tannins that come with 10 years of aging.
$24.99

And finally, the CHOCOLATE BUNNIES:

Lingot-Martin Vin de Bugey-Cerdon (Savoie, France): I'm always looking for reasons to pull out this slightly sweet, utterly charming, sparkling rose. Chocolate bunnies are as good a reason as any.  It also would pair with marshmallow chicks.  I managed to get a good deal at the distributor, so it's now on offer for $19.99.  (Regular price: $21.99).
