HAPPY NEW YEAR!
The 2009-2010 school year is successfully underway! Our K-8 program started in late August, and the kids are now "old pros" at the new school routine. The day after Labor Day marked the first day of school for our PreK students, some of them starting their first school experience. In addition, we welcome many new K-8 families whose children have just started or have transferred to Saint Paul. God is good and He continues to bless our school with wonderful partner families, loving volunteers, and the support of Saint Paul Lutheran Congregation! Thank you!
I often say I have the best job in the school! I am able to walk through each class in the school every day to see the marvelous class projects, activities, drama, music, art--too much to list!--that happens EVERY DAY at Saint Paul Lutheran School!
I'd like to take you along with me once in awhile, so that you can enjoy all the things that kids, teachers, and volunteer helpers do together to make this such a great place for kids, and for learning. Here we go!
Thanks to Mrs. Gene Zielnicki, art teacher, for the fabulous bulletin board!

We Love Reading Buddies!
What could be better than sharing a good book with a new friend or two? The Reading Buddy program allows Saint Paul students to do just that! Older-grade Reading Buddies are paired with their younger-grade Buddies for reading, projects, science experiments, chapel presentations, and even some celebrations. It's a great way for students to learn to be mentors, and for comforting relationships to form between the grades!

Welcome, Miss Baker, Student Teacher! Here at Saint Paul, we enjoy a fabulous relationship with Concordia University, Chicago, which sends several student teachers to us each year! The student teachers benefit from the vast experience of our staff and the creative atmosphere at our school. Saint Paul School students and staff benefit from the energy and creativity that these wonderful new professionals have to offer. It's a WIN-WIN situation! Please welcome Miss Baker when you see her in the hallway! Below is a letter she wrote to introduce herself.
Dear students, faculty, and parents of Saint Paul Lutheran School,
Hello, my name is Leann Baker, and I am a senior at Concordia University Chicago. My major is Lutheran Early Childhood Education. I was placed here, at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School for my professional semester. I will be a student teacher in Mrs. Klingelhofer's and Miss Neumann's classroom this fall. I will spend the first eight weeks of the semester with Mrs. Klingelhofer's second grade class, and I will spend the rest of the semester with Miss Neumann's pre-school class. I am looking forward to meeting all the students, faculty, and parents of Saint Paul. I attended St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Rochelle, Illinois from pre-school through eighth grade, so I am looking forward to being part of the Lutheran grade school community again. I have wanted to become a teacher since third grade. All of the wonderful teachers that I had growing up have molded me into the person that I have become. My hope is that I will become that teacher for my future students. I have chosen to become a Lutheran school teacher because I want to teach about our Lord, Jesus Christ, and everything He has done for us. I want to share one of my favorite Bible passages, "Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants." Deuteronomy 32:2 May God bless our school year, and I am looking forward to growing in Christ with all of you. In Christ, Leann Baker

...to Chapel! Every Wednesday, students in 1st through 8th grades attend School Chapel Service, and you are cordially invited. Praise songs led by Mr. Sebby start each chapel the right way. Then...well...you never know WHO will show up! Will it be a visit from Brother Bart, the medieval monk transported to the present in the Time Machine? Will it be Minnesota Jonas and Dr. Iconoclast, solving a puzzle or a crime? Will it be Wonder Woman, whose questions about church are answered when she wonders out loud? Join us on Wednesdays at 8:35 am to find out! If you can't join us--be sure to ask your child, "Who visited Chapel today?" |

We are pleased to announce that this year all first through eighth graders will be participating in an assessment called MAP (Measures of Academic Performance). There are several things that make this test the assessment of choice for many excellent school districts. First, the results are almost immediate--no more waiting weeks for test results. In addition, we will be able to administer the MAP tests in Fall and again in Spring to provide a Student Educational Growth Chart. Finally, each test is completed under optimal testing conditions. There is no time limit and there aren't even little circles to fill in--it's all done on the computer. MAP testing begins NEXT WEEK! Parents: Please see that your chidren come to school rested, well-fed, and ready! Look for more information in your child's take-home folder. |
