Get Gross at the Fleet with "ANIMAL GROSSOLOGY!"
What do mechanical cow stomachs, a giant talking parrot, boxing dung beetles and a 25-foot-long submarine have in common? They're all part of the biggest, grossest exhibition we've ever hosted here at the Fleet and it opens this weekend"ANIMAL GROSSOLOGY" features 16 hands-on exhibits that offer visitors a larger-than-life look at nature's blood-sucking, vomit-munching, slime-making and dookie-loving creatures.

Be sure to join us on opening day-this Saturday, Sept. 27--for the GrossOlympics II where kids (ages 14 & under) can compete in several eewwy-fun games, including "Hack a Hairball," "Creepy-Crabby Crawl" and the "Mosquitoes Suck! Bugstacle Course." Kids and families will have hours of silly fun and win awesome prizes in the process!

Get Even Grosser with Weekend Workshops
Animal GrossologyBring your favorite young scientist (pre-K through grade 6) for a unique perspective on the animal kingdom! Each of our new "ANIMAL GROSSOLOGY" Weekend Workshops delves into a different icky subject to bring to life all the gritty and gross facts about some of nature's most disgusting critters. Workshops are available select weekends in October and November, but space is limited and pre-registration is required.

Politics in ScienceThis month's Exploring Ethics program examines one of the central issues in this year's presidential election: the relationship between government and science. When science is funded by the government, should government have a role in deciding which areas of research will receive support and how-or if-the results will be reported & used? RSVPs are requested for this popular evening lecture series.

Marine mammals like dolphins, whales and polar bears rely on a thick layer of blubber to regulate their body temperature in cold water. In this month's experiment, you'll use items found in an ordinary kitchen to simulate that important layer of fat and feel how well it protects against icy waters.
