Escape to Paradise...Cook Island Style
The Cooks, as they are affectionately known, is a chain of islands consisting of 15 islands scattered over some 1.5 million square miles in the South Pacific Ocean. It is bordered to the west by the Samoas and to the east by Tahiti and the islands of French Polynesia. The five most inhabited and accessible islands are; Rarotonga, Aitutaki, Atiu, Mangaia and Manihiki. The other 10 lesser islands that make up the Cooks Islands are also accessible with less tourist accommodations, but worth a day trip to explore, if time permits.
Kia Orana means "Welcome" in the Cook Islands Maori language and the locals truly mean it. Most visitors to Rarotonga enjoy its low-key beach resorts and 300 private rentals. While honeymooners and couples gravitate toward Aikutaki, where luxury hotels such as the Pacific or Aitutaki Lagoon Resort might set up your dinner on the beach under the stars. Adventurers will want to explore the island of Atiu, population 400, protected by its raised coral reef. Rarotonga is the vibrant center of the Cook Islands and the largest island of the group. Circular and only 20 miles in circumference, it is dominated by high mountain peaks which rise to 450 feet from which lush rain forests cascade and provide a dramatic backdrop to a palm-fringed shore. The island is almost completely encircled by a reef, which harbors a lagoon of clear turquoise water and many inviting white sand beaches. Explore More

What is a UNESCO World Heritage Site?
Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural and natural heritages are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration. Places as unique and diverse as the wilds of East Africa's Serengeti, the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the Baroque cathedrals of Latin America make up our world's heritage.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seek to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity.
There are currently 911 sites recognized worldwide.
What makes the concept of World Heritage exceptional is sites belong to all the peoples of the world, irrespective of the territory on which they are located. We've included a few to share and explore.
Pre-Hispanic City of Chichen-Itza,Mexico
This sacred site was one of the greates t Mayan centers of the Yucatán peninsula. Throughout its nearly 1,000-year history, different peoples have left their mark on the city. The Maya and Toltec vision of the world and the universe is revealed in their stone monuments and artistic works. The fusion of Mayan construction techniques with new elements from central Mexico make Chichen-Itza one of the most important examples of the Mayan-Toltec civilization in Yucatán. Several buildings have survived, such as the Warriors' Temple, El Castillo and the circular observatory known as El Caracol.

Amazon Adventure
by Norma McClellan
In March, my husband Richard and I set sail for an adventure we really had never spent much time thinking about. The opportunity presented itself, so we took advantage of it. I must say, it was truly a trip of a lifetime.
Aboard the Pacific Princess, we left Ft. Lauderdale heading for the Amazon. The cruise was actually 2 fourteen day cruises, back to back which became a 28 day round-trip cruise. We had no idea what to expect, or how exciting the trip would become. On our way to the Amazon, we stopped at St. Barts, Dominica, St. Lucia, Tabago and Devils Island in the French Guiana, before traversing the Amazon for 8 full days.
While going to Manaus, Brazil, the furthermost city we traveled in the Amazon, we stopped at Santarem and also Boca da Valeria. All 3 of these cities gave us an opportunity to see and better understand how different, yet the same our cultures are. The people were delightful and so full of life, happy, cheerful, and sincerely happy to meet us. Explore More
