CETPA's Clubhouse "Dream'rs" Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

During the month of September, Clubhouse members worked on a special project to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.  Members created teams of two and each team picked a Hispanic/Latino country to research and present to the rest of the Clubhouse.  Members interviewed native born people from their country; researched the country on the Internet and acquired as much data from that country as they could. 

 

Then, during their monthly Family Meeting, Clubhouse members and their parents met at CETPA's auditorium to hear Clubhouse members share the information they learned and present foods from many of those different countries.  Parents, staff and the rest of the members enjoyed the presentations by each team on the country they had chosen.  At the end, everyone realized how important it is to understand both cultures in seeking future opportunities, the 'home' culture where our heritage originated, and the 'host' culture, the one here in the United States."

 

Dream'rs CETPA Clubhouse celebró el Mes de la Herencia Hispana

Durante todo el mes de septiembre los miembros del Clubhouse trabajaron arduamente para celebrar el Mes de la Herencia Hispana. Por parejas seleccionaron un país diferente y realizaron consultas en el Internet y con personas de cada país, para compartir con el resto del grupo y los padres de familia sobre los aspectos y personalidades de cada una de las naciones hispanohablantes.

 

En una amena reunión familiar, en la sala de CETPA, compartimos comida de los diferentes países y disfrutamos  las presentaciones de los jóvenes y al final coincidimos en la importancia que tiene para nosotros poder aprovechar las dos culturas, la nuestra y la de este país que nos acoge y nos brinda múltiples oportunidades.

Clubhouse? No, The Haunted Clubhouse

In October, Clubhouse members transformed each area of the Clubhouse into the "CETPA Haunted Clubhouse." This Halloween project was an amazing success.

 

Each corner and available space in the Clubhouse was decorated with great detail; members put on their best Halloween costumes and learned every trick, scare tactic, noise and action to scare and amaze the fortunate ones that came out and enjoyed their magnificent work.

 

Visitors, member's parents and CETPA Staff expressed their admiration and congratulated the Clubhouse members and staff for a fantastic job - it was really a sight to see.  Clubhouse members are already planning the 2011 "Haunted Clubhouse" and one suggestion has already been posted: to open the Haunted Clubhouse to all CETPA clients and their families.  See you in 2011.

 

¿Clubhouse? No, El Clubhouse Embrujado

Un rotundo éxito significó la realización del proyecto de Halloween, que permitió que los miembros del Clubhouse transformaran totalmente el espacio cotidiano en un verdadero Clubhouse Embrujado.

 

Cada espacio fue cuidadosamente decorado y los chicos vistieron sus mejores disfraces y acudieron a todos los trucos posibles para asombrar y asustar a los visitantes que tuvieron el privilegio de disfrutar de este magnífico trabajo.

 

Al final los visitantes coincidieron en expresar su felicitación a los jóvenes y al staff por el trabajo realizado y desde ya solicitaron que el año entrante sea abierto también para los clientes de la clínica.

RECYCLING IS EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILITY

Recycling Project at CETPA

In 2010, as CETPA's Clubhouse members learned about the importance of recycling and the effect it has on our ennvironment, they were so encouraged that they took the initiative of creating a recycling program for CETPA.

 

Their plan started by acquiring orange bins to be used by CETPA team members to deposit plastic containers, cardboard, paper, and other recyclable materials generated at CETPA.  Then, they marked each of the bins with recycling signs and placed them in strategic locations throughout the agency (kitchens, reception area, dance room, prevention department, etc.).

 

Each week the Clubhouse members collect the materials from all of the bins and take them to the Gwinnett Recycling Bank. By doing this, the Clubhouse members believe that CETPA will be a positive example of proper disposing of recyclable materials to the CETPA staff, our clients, visitors and the community at large.

 

It is also another example of how adolescents with substance abuse problems can change and move towards becoming responsible members of society and contributors to their community.

 

Proyecto de Reciclaje en CETPA

Durante el 2010 los miembros de Club de jóvenes de CETPA (Clubhouse) aprendieron acerca de la importancia del reciclaje y el efecto que tiene en nuestro ambiente, y la reacción fué tan positiva que ellos mismos tomaron la iniciativa de crear un programa de reciclaje para CETPA.

 

Su plan comenzó adquiriendo cajones anaranjados los cuales serán utilizados para depositar contenedores plásticos, piezas de cartón, papeles, y otros materiales reciclables que se utilizan en CETPA. Cada uno de los cajones fué marcado con el signo internacional de reciclaje y fueron colocados en lugares estratégicos a través de la agencia (la cocina, el area de recepción, el auditorio, el departamento de prevención, etc.).

 

Cada semana los miembros de Club recogen los materiales depositados en todos los cajones y los llevan al Banco del Reciclaje del condado de Gwinnett. En crear este programa los miembros de Club de jóvenes de CETPA creen que CETPA servirá como un ejemplo positivo de cómo deshacerse de materiales reciclables de una manera apropiada al personal de CETPA, nuestros clientes, los visitantes y a la comunidad en general.

 

También es otro ejemplo de cómo los adolescentes con problemas de abuso de sustancias pueden cambiar y pueden comenzar su camino para ser miembros responsables de la sociedad y contribuyentes a su comunidad.
