Congratulations to the newest pastors in the Lower Susquehanna Synod!  Standing with Bishop Hoover after last Friday evening's service of ordination are Elizabeth Garber Martini, called to Christ, Duncannon; and Del Akech Del, called as Pastor Evangelist to African Nationals through the Harrisburg Sudanese Worshipping Community.  Thanks be to God!

 

Service of Ordination in Camp Hill

ordinationClipJessica (Hamme) Felici will be ordained into the holy ministry of Word and Sacrament during a Celebration of Holy Eucharist on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at 7:30 PM.  Bishop Ralph Dunkin of the West Virginia-Western Maryland Synod will preside with the Rev. Dr. Rick Carlson preaching.  The service will take place at Grace Lutheran Church, 1610 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, PA. 

 

Jessica has been called to serve as co-pastor with her husband, Jason, at the Mountain Lutheran Parish in Pendleton and Pocahontas Counties, WV.  The parish is made up of five congregations: Mt. Hope, Upper Tract; Faith, Franklin; St. John, Moyers; Calvary, Brandywine; and New Hope, Minnehaha Springs.

 

Rostered leaders are invited to vest and process.  The color of the day is red.  A reception will follow the service.

Palestinian Fair Trade - Canaan Interfaith Program

ConnectDestruction precedes construction in the synod offices as work continues on the new space for resources, the Office for Children, Youth and Family Ministry, and communications.  This hub of hospitality will be located in the area that formerly housed the Luther Room and staff offices.  Stay tuned as space is created for conversation, coffee, and connections!

 

St. Barnabas Center Volunteer Opportunities

 

volunteersThe St. Barnabas Center for Ministry is a faith-based nonprofit organization committed to serving at-risk, low-income children in the uptown area of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It is a joint venture between the local Episcopalians and Lutherans, representing the Episcopal Diocese of Lower Susquehanna Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

 

Volunteer opportunities are now available!  There is an immediate need for:

  • Public Relations and Marketing Committeee members
  • Board members

Bill Mallonee has played with many great artistis - Buddy Miller, Peter Buck (REM), Victoria Williams, Mark Olsen (The Jayhawks), Emmylou Harris, Jim Lauderdale - to name a few.  Now he is touring solo and performing with his wife, keyboardist and vocalist, Murriah Rose (with The Olive Tree as opening band).

Lutheran Women are "World Champion Singers!"

Seven area Lutheran women can now claim the title, "World Champion."  These women, all members of the Greater Harrisburg Chorus, Sweet Adelines International, recently returned from the 7th World Choir Games in Cincinnati, Ohio.  The games, dubbed the Olympics of Choral Singing, brought together more than 350 choral groups from 62 countries for ten days of musical performances in 23 categories.  The Greater Harrisburg Chorus competed in the barbershop category and earned a gold-medal rating and were named World Champions in that category.

A little piece of Germany will come to Harrisburg as the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Saviour hosts its annual GermanFest!  The event features authentic German food, free children's games, bake sale, silent auction, the Egerlander German Band, accordion music and the Popcorn Hat Players.  A 9/11 Prayer of Remembrance Service will be held at 10:30 AM at the church.  For more details, visit the church website or call the church office at 717.545.9992.  The church is located at 420 N. Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Gardners, is seeking an organist for a one-year term, with possibility of extension. Duties include providing organ leadership for Sunday morning worship and accompanying the choir at Thursday evening rehearsals. There are other special services of worship throughout the year (funerals, weddings, etc.). The congregation uses the Lutheran Book of Worship. Organist will often choose preludes, offertory music and postludes. Organist can work with committee to choose hymns. Salary is negotiable.
