Firm Foundation for Faith Poured in Dillsburg

 

Construction began with the pouring of concrete yesterday for the new Christ (Filey) Lutheran Church at 15 S. Filey's Road in Dillsburg.  The former church facility was destroyed by fire in August 2010. According to Pastor Debbie Mahady, the congregation hopes to begin worshipping in the new facility by Easter 2013.  Thanks be to God!

Laura Kaeppeler, age 23, is Miss America 2012.  On July 20, 2012 she will be visiting Lancaster to speak on behalf of Children of Incarcerated Parents.  Miss Kaeppeler, whose father went to prison when she was a teenager, travels around the nation to speak on behalf of children of incarcerated parents.  And, she's a Lutheran!

The community is invited to a Celtic Serivce of Evening Prayer that will feature the Celtic Ensemble from Christ Lutheran Church, Gettysburg.  Come and sing some of the ancient lyrics and tunes from the early Christian Church in Ireland accompanied by instruments such as guitar, flute and dulcimer.  For more information call the church office at 717.843.7897.  All are welcome and the church is air-conditioned!

The Worship and Music Committee of St. Peter Church invites all to an afternoon of music and fellowship.  This first program of the 2012-13 Concert Series features Stephanie Strauss, clarinet, and John Messick, piano.  A reception will follow the one-hour recital.

 

Stephanie is in her junior year as a music therapy major at Elizabethtown College, and studies clarinet with Faith Shiffer.  John was graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in piano performance.   He is the church musician at St. Peter Church.

 

Global Mission News with a Local Connection

 

globalDr. Carl C. Stecker will join the ELCA Global Mission staff serving as Director for Diakonia, beginnning on August 13, 2012.  Dr. Stecker and his wife, the Rev. Paula Stecker, served as missionaries with the American Lutheran Church and the ELCA in the Central African Republic.  Since 2001 Dr. Stecker has been serving with Catholic Relief Services as Senior Technical Advisor for Health and HIV and AIDS, and as Head of Program Quality Support.  The Rev. Paula Stecker formerly served in the Lower Susquehanna Synod as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, York.

 

Home Health Care Programs Integrated

 

caregivingDiakon Lutheran Social Ministries and Lutheran Social Services (LSS) of South Central Pennsylvania recently announced the integration of their home care programs, effective July 1, but pending appropriate licensing approvals.  At that time, staff members of Diakon Hospice Saint John, Diakon Home Health, and Diakon Help at Home will become part of LSS-South Central's Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, Inc.  Click here to read a detailed letter from Lutheran Social Services and Diakon.
