Denise Horn (Salem, Marion) and her family.  Pastor Horn's mother, Grace Bement, died early this morning following a long illness.  Services will be held next week at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Torrington, Connecticut.  Messages of care can be sent to hornfamily3803@comcast.net.

 

Prayers are requested for the Rev. Sadie Pounder (Holy Trinity, Lancaster).  Pastor Pounder will have major surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital on June 27 for what appears to be a cancerous bile duct tumor.  Messages of care and support for Pastor Pounder and her husband, Mike, can be sent to spounder718@yahoo.com.

Music Notes

sundaeTrinity Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street, Camp Hill, invites everyone to the first concert in the 2012 Summer Sundae Concert series on Sunday, June 24.  The series includes three free contemporary Christian music concerts, held on the fourth Sundays of the summer months.  The events will be held outdoors on the church grounds from 6:30 PM until 7:30 PM.  Trinity's praise band, FaithX, will perform familiar music of the contemporary Christian music genre.  Free ice cream sundaes will be served during the concert.  Bring your own comfortable lawn chairs.  In event of inclement weather, the concert will be held indoors.  Read more...

The Concert Handbell Choir from Gales Ferry, CT, is comprised of high school students playing five octaves of handbells and five octaves of melody chimes.  Their repertoire includes a wide variety of sacred, classical, and popular music.  The group has traveled widely and has a rich performance history.  They have toured England twice, played in the US Coast Guard Band Christmas programs and participated in numerous festivals.  The concert is free.  A freewill offering will be received.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hershey is offering a unique Vacation Bible School program for all ages!  Focusing on the gift of forgiveness, "Forgiven to Forgive," looks at forgiveness through the lens of film, music and art.  The program is designed for kids and adults.  Children will learn about forgiveness through exploring Jesus' parables and adults will explore forgiveness through different media forms with specialists presenting in each area. Click here to learn more about the adult program.  For more information and to download a poster, click here.  All are welcome!

St. Matthew Lutheran Church in York is offering a Vacation Bible School experience for Ages 3 through Grade 6 and an adult class led by Pastor Kevin Shively.  Each day the children will participate in singing with the St. Matthew Bible School Band, hear Bible stories, enjoy crafts and games and participate in a mission project.  Learners may bring in supplies to make school kits for Lutheran World Relief and/or Church World Services.  For more information, contact Miss Debbie at 717.842.2721.

The year of ministry for both Elizabeth Frey (Millersville) serving in Malaysia and Samantha Harclerode (Camp Hill) serving in South Africa is drawing to a close.  Liz is due to return to the United States on July 20 and Samantha will return on August 1.

Please continue to keep "our girls" in your prayers for safe travels on their long journeys home, for a chance to rest and recuperate from the intensity of their work, and for time to get re-acquainted with family and friends and to reflect upon all their experiences. 

 

It will be exciting to continue to follow these girls to see how this past year's experiences impact them in future endeavors.

This seminar is designed to provide opportunities to strengthen work skills needed in the modern office, to network with other secretaries/administrators, and to grow spiritually.  Secretaries/administrators are encouraged to bring copies of newsletters, bulletins, guidelines, office manuals, etc., to share with other attendees.  Click here to learn more and register for the event.

Lebanon Lutherans on the Move

Lebanon Lutheran Mission Team 2012

Sixty-six volunteers from Lebanon congregations are spending the week in servant ministry in Pendleton, West Virginia.  Under the leadership of Paul Copenhaver, Heather Buffington, Denise McDaniels and Joette Hollinger, these Lutherans are working with Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity.  The trip was made possible by a number of community fund raisers and sponsorships from Holy Trinity, Lebanon. 

 

Congregations participating in this endeavor are Holy Trinity, Lebanon; Salem, Lebanon; Zion, Lebanon; Zion, Jonestown; St. James, Lebanon; and St. Luke, Schaefferstown.

Position: Coordinator of Youth and Family Ministry

smileGrace Lutheran Church, Camp Hill, is seeking a Coordinator of Youth and Family Ministry. This is a part-time position, up to 20 hours per week. The successful candidate will work with the Christian Education Committee and Youth Ministry Team to assist in visioning, administering, and implementing a strategy for a cohesive and ongoing ministry of faith formation with children and youth. This ministry includes the faith formation of young children in Sunday school through high-school age youth. Additionally, working cooperatively with these teams and the ministry staff, an emphasis should be placed on developing practical ways to equip and accompany parents for faith formation in the family home. This position reports to the Pastor. Emphasis will be placed on community outreach, service projects, worship, and faith formation of each youth through cross-generational and peer activities, retreats, synodical and churchwide events and other learning opportunities. Position: Director of Children's Music

Grace Lutheran Church, Camp Hill, is seeking a Director of Children's Music. This position is part-time, about four hours per week during the Sunday school year. This is a Sunday morning responsibility, occurring during the Sunday school hour at which the children are most available. The Director of Children's Music will work with the Christian Education staff and volunteers to enhance faith formation through music, teaching music to various age groupings, and finding ways to incorporate that music into Sunday worship. Position reports to Director of Music. A knowledge of children's musical development is required, as is the ability to interact positively with children and parents.
