Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Marie Dietrich, who died on June 6, 2012, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.  Marie was the widow of the Rev. Gerhard Dietrich, who served Palm Lutheran Church, Palmyra from 1956 until 1984.
 
The family will receive visitors at Palm Lutheran Church on Friday, June 15, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.  The funeral service will be held at Palm Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 16, beginning at 11:00 AM.  The church is located at 11 West Cherry Street, Palmyra, PA.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Reverend Gerhard and Marie Dietrich Scholarship Fund at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia.

Music Notes

sundaeTrinity Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street, Camp Hill, invites everyone to the first concert in the 2012 Summer Sundae Concert series on Sunday, June 24.  The series includes three free contemporary Christian music concerts, held on the fourth Sundays of the summer months.  The events will be held outdoors on the church grounds from 6:30 PM until 7:30 PM.  Trinity's praise band, FaithX, will perform familiar music of the contemporary Christian music genre.  Free ice cream sundaes will be served during the concert.  Bring your own comfortable lawn chairs.  In event of inclement weather, the concert will be held indoors.  Read more...

The Concert Handbell Choir from Gales Ferry, CT, is comprised of high school students playing five octaves of handbells and five octaves of melody chimes.  Their repertoire includes a wide variety of sacred, classical, and popular music.  The group has traveled widely and has a rich performance history.  They have toured England twice, played in the US Coast Guard Band Christmas programs and participated in numerous festivals.  The concert is free.  A freewill offering will be received.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hershey is offering a unique Vacation Bible School program for all ages!  Focusing on the gift of forgiveness, "Forgiven to Forgive," looks at forgiveness through the lens of film, music and art.  The program is designed for kids and adults.  Children will learn about forgiveness through exploring Jesus' parables and adults will explore forgiveness through different media forms with specialists presenting in each area. Click here to learn more about the adult program.  For more information and to download a poster, click here.  All are welcome!

  • An African child has an average of 1.6 and 5.4 episodes of malaria each year.
  • In countries with high rates of malaria, the disease accounts for up to 60% of health clinic visits and 50% of hospital stays.

Congregational Heritage Workshops Scheduled

St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Plainfield, is seeking a permanent or long-term organist/pianist/accompanist. We are seeking an organist/pianist to lead music for a weekly Sunday 10:00 AM worship service, provide accompaniment for choir rehearsal, and to provide music for additional services throughout the church year. Knowledge of Lutheran liturgical traditions or a willingness to learn is helpful. Knowledge of traditional and contemporary musical styles for worship is desired. The qualified candidate will collaborate creatively with the pastor and church council in planning worship, choose appropriate music and work with the choir. This is a permanent position.
