The Future of Music Coalition (an organization that Local 802 and the AFM have worked with) would like to know how artists in the 21st century are making money. This information will help the coalition develop better strategies, recommendations and policies to do what we all want to do: earn more income from our art! To take the survey now, click the graphic above or click here.

Musicians: what are your memories of 9/11?

We received many moving essays from musicians about their memories of 9/11. We printed some in the September issue of Allegro but there are many more to read. You do not want to miss these stories. Click the graphic above or click here.

Who profits from copyright?

In Europe, the catalog of the Beatles was about to slip into the public domain, but a new copyright law stopped it. Record labels are happy, but musicians are not. Read the story here.

Meanwhile, in the United States, the opposite is happening. The master recordings to many top acts are about to return to the musicians, but record labels are fighting this. Read the full story here.

Drop us a note and let us know if copyright law has helped or hurt you as a musician. Click here to send us an e-mail.

THE STATE OF CLASSICAL MUSIC

Bruce Ridge, the chair of ICSOM, recently gave an impassioned speech in Detroit  in which he outlined many of the challenges facing classical music and classical ensembles. He also offered inspiration and hope. This speech is a must-read! Click here for a copy.

SOLIDARITY!

Workers at the Boathouse Restaurant in Central Park are on strike over low wages, stolen overtime pay, long hours, no benefits, unsafe conditions, rampant favoritism, sexual harassment, ethnic discrimination and management abuse. As musicians, we know how difficult a strike is. Let's help fellow workers! Click here for more information and here to sign a petition.
