Take Arts Off NY Cuts List! Act Now !

On Thursday the New York Governor proposed another $7 million cut to New York State Council on the Arts. A total budget cut of 20% for the current year is way out of proportion to reductions in other areas.

State grants in the arts stimulate the economy not produce greater deficits!

Musicians Health Fair - Free Testing

MusiCares, in conjunction with The Actor's Fund's Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic, North General Hospital, and the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention will be sponsoring a Health Fair for musicians, music industry professionals and all entertainment industry professionals. Free services available at the health fair include:

Flu shots

Glucose testing

Blood pressure screening

Cholesterol testing

Hepatitis C screening

Alexander technique consultations

Chiropractic consultations

Health Insurance Information

The fair will take place on Thursday, November 20th from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at The Aurora, 475 West 57th Street, 2nd Floor Community Room, New York, NY 10019. No appointment is necessary.

Election Victories

Congratulations to the many Local 802 members who efforts helped produce a stunning victory for President Elect Barack Obama, Congressman and Local 802 member John Hall and a number of other Local 802 endorsed candidates for state and national office. Dozens of volunteers, part of Local 802's "Power Builders", organized by Executive Board members Ethan Fein and Maxine Roach working with Paul Molloy, Local 802 Political Director, made over three thousand calls in behalf of our candidates. In addition Local 802 members volunteered their efforts on the ground in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, Florida and of course New York - all won by the Obama ticket. Our thanks and congratulations to all!
