Act Now To Save New York's Recording Industry

SIGN THIS PETITION!!!

 October 9, 2008

To:       Governor David Paterson

Mayor Michael Bloomberg

NYS State Controller Thomas P. DiNapoli

NYC Controller William C. Thompson, Jr.

 Gentlemen:

We urgently need your help to save Legacy Recording Studios, a vital part of New York's recording industry.  Without your swift action New York City's last remaining, large state-of-the-art recording studio will be forced to close effective November 30, 2008.

Over the last 5 years, 1,500 recording dates have taken place at Legacy Studios, employing hundreds of musicians and other recording artists in more than 25,000 musician/sessions with total wages paid in excess of $10 million. Recorded at these sessions have been the scores for major motion pictures, nearly every major Broadway cast album and dozens of well known recording artists.  This studio has generated between $25 and $30 million in economic activity for our city and state.

While a real estate developer has purchased the building occupied by the studio, there are no announced plans to demolish or build on the property.  There is no reason for this vital part of New York's entertainment industry infrastructure to be shut down. We urge immediate intervention with the developer to stop this studio closing. The last thing our economy needs is more jobs losses at this time in this critically important industry.

Yours sincerely,
