Broadway Strike Ends - TV Networks Still Out   November 29, 2007

Solidarity Wins Broadway

You probably have already heard that late last night negotiators for Local One IATSE and the League reached a tentative agreement ending the first Local One strike on Broadway in that union's 121 year history.  While  we do not have the details of the agreement, we know that stagehands are going back to work with their heads held high and all who work on Broadway can be justly proud of the solidarity demonstrated over the last two and a half weeks.

Musicians affected by the strike should contact their house contractor to verify the schedule. The intention expressed by the League was to resume Thursday.

Musicians should be especially  proud of the solidarity shown to the striking stagehands by pit orchestras. During everyday of this strike and at every theatre, musicians were there is support of our Local One sisters and brothers.

The last checks for out of work hardship benefits being disbursed out of the Local 802 Strike Fund will be available for pickup on Wednesday December 5, from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. on the 5th floor of Local 802 in the Trial Board Room.

A special thanks goes out to all the house contractors and everyone who pitched in for keeping track of schedules and sign in sheets so that assistance benefits from the 802 strike fund could be disbursed in an orderly fashion.

WGA Strike

Members of the Writers' Guild of America remain on strike at the television networks. The chief issue is how use of the writers' work will be paid in use on the internet and new media mobile platforms. As the writers have expressed the situation at the bargaining table: "Currently on the table is a $0 dollar increase over and above the $0 currently being paid".

Local 802 members working at the New York based network shows have been out of work for one month as shows have closed without scripts and laid off the staff. The method of compensation eventually agreed upon with the writers for new media will set a pattern that likely will affect members of the AFM.
