Greetings!

We are rescheduling our press conference to a week from next Tuesday, Sept. 11th at 2 pm.  If you are willing to host this event, with Austin's press and Stop Domain Subsidies supporters, please call or email us right away.   We will announce our venue location at the end of next week!

WE EXPECT TO GET SIGNIFICANT TV COVERAGE AT THIS EVENT -- A STORE OR RESTAURANT LOCATION FOR THIS EVENT WOULD BE GREAT TO ADVERTISE OUR CAUSE.

We are making rapid and significant progress -- which you may have read about in the Statesman or the Chronicle (check the link below).

AUSTIN CHRONICLE ARTICLE

The AFL-CIO just endorsed our efforts -- representing 13,000 workers in Austin!
251 merchants, to date, have signed on to the SDS petition!  Livable City, a local organization concerned with Austin's affordability and quality of life, has begun to raise their own concerns about the Domain subsidies.  The City's playing fast and loose with tax subsidies is becoming so much a hot potato that Las Manitas decided not to take advantage of a $700,000+ forgivable loan.

It appears to us that the City is getting extremely nervous about our momentum.  So much so that there's now talk of delaying their first payment to The Domain until October 2008.

The problem with this timing is that in order for Austin voters to intervene (assuming they may need to do if the City doesn't stop the Domain subsidies), a petition drive to place the issue on the ballot next May must start sometime in September.  Therefore, this is the purpose of the press conference on September 11th, to announce our plan to get 20,000 signatures by January '08.

Please come to this event -- and bring a business owner or friends with you.  Stay tuned for the venue (or offer your own!).  And, please RSVP now or next week, if you are coming by simply sending a message to Linda Curtis at
ljcurtis@indytexans.org.

Thanks again to you all for stepping up to the plate to do what's right for the City and it's lifeblood, Austin's independently owned businesses and citizens.

Feel free to forward this message!
Sincerely,

Linda Curtis & Brian Rodgers
