Shakespeare Wealth Management quoted in 9/17/2011 Wall Street Journal
| | |
In an article entitled "Don't Join the Ostrich Generation" - Kevin Reardon, Shakespeare Wealth Management, was quoted.....
"Anyone who is 55-plus working in corporate America has a bull's eye on their back," says Kevin Reardon, a fee-only financial adviser in Pewaukee, Wis. "We tell everyone who's not the owner of a business to prepare."... But few economists are predicting robust job creation in the next few years. One potential salve is part-time work. Even a modest paycheck could help early retirees give their battered investments a chance to bounce back before they start tapping them. Mr. Reardon, the Wisconsin planner, counseled one couple recently to have the wife hold on to her job three to four years longer than planned. She works part-time running a travel agency, making about $25,000 a year. She didn't view it as a large contribution to the couple's finances, so she considered quitting so they could move. Mr. Reardon explained that if she kept working, their investments should last at least two additional years-until she's 84, rather than 82. She has continued-and can do most of the work in six months each year, he says. Plan for rising health-care costs-especially if you're healthy now.

Kelli also teaches Accounting and QuickBooks at WCTC, with the same philosophy - if her students do not succeed, she does not either. She has been involved with the chamber for over a year and understands the concept of "giving to get" back and supporting other local business primarily in the chamber. In addition to her involvement in the chamber, she is involved in many community events as a volunteer. Just to name a few: Taste of Lake Country,

BUSINESS xCHANGE
"Give to Get"
|
| |
 | |
It works both ways. You must "give to get". Share with the rest of the chamber your testimonial, encouraging members to support each other
|
According to networking experts, one must "give to get" to reap the benefits resulting in referrals, leads and ultimately "growing your business". Here's the Chamber Members who shared with us how they are actively working this process. We applaud them for exemplifying the old fashioned principles that chambers were founded on. Here's our Current List of 2011 Chamber Members for you to patronize.
Mike Poelzer, Spring Creek Church, supports many of our Chamber Members. They use Arnold's Environmental Services for all their temporary bathroom facilities. They use AmeriSign & Graphics for much of their signage. Their Annual Student Ministry held "Wing Bowl" at Buffalo Wild Wings Restaurant. They purchase all their coffee from Dunn Brothers Coffee. Their Student Pastor is the Chaplain for the Milwaukee Wave (Lindy Enterprises). They put up all their out of town guests at the Milwaukee Marriott West. Moe's Southwest Grill does many ongoing promotions for them, especially for their Upward Soccer and Basketball players. They have an ongoing membership with Sam's Club. Smokie's Muskie Shop hosts their Dad's & Kid's Fishing Day. The Chocolate Factory handles many of their catering orders. Laurie and Scott Stollenwerk from Visiting Angels are church members and promote their "Monthly Concert Series" to seniors in the community.
Sue Gresham, Innovative Client Solutions, has been a guest on WRJN, AM 1400 Radio talking about Social Media. Congratulations!
Christina Dollins, Lakeview Insurance, would like to thank Big Guys Magic Shop for allowing her to insure his business and work on his personal home and auto insurance. She would also like to thank Sandy Raasch, American Republic Insurance for her referrals. They were able to save a bunch of money on their insurance and appreciated your recommendations! Rebecca Scarberry, Becky's Blissful Bakery and Jodi Keene, Mary Kay Cosmetics, donated door prizes to Lake Country Travel and Lakeview Insurance's Open House on October 6. Ron Wurm, Design Wurm, would like to thank the Chamber for promoting him at WCTC Grow Your Business Expo. As a result he picked up a new client.
Kevin Reardon, Shakespeare Wealth Management, loves to eat at Five O'Clock Club. Patti Maynard, Maynard and Belt, referred her brother to Tom Dempsey, Shamrock Building Inspectors, when he purchased a fix up home on Pewaukee Lake. He found Tom to be very knowledgeable, thoroughly explaining things and quite accommodating and friendly. from Alisha Schulz, Associated Bank, Pewaukee... I referred my sister (a new start up business) to Atty Jeremy Geisel @ Walden, Schuster & Vaklyes SC. He has been very helpful with getting her set up with her licenses and other legal advice. Alisha Schulz, Associated Bank, also contacted Kathy Oleinik, Neighborhood Welcome, to circulate information to new families moving into Pewaukee and Waukesha about Associated Bank's services. She's hoping for great results! Show us you support our Chamber Businesses by sending your BUSINESS XCHANGE to info@pewaukeechamber.org to be included in the next newsletter |

feedback from one of our Chamber Members who attended the Expo...
Kathy,
"I did like the expo. It was a different format than any other expo I have ever been to. It was more instructional. I think it was a good way to help teach your members how to do an expo and network with each other. Patty Gale, Inspired WebWorks was great. She really simplified social media and made it something the smallest and not tech saavy business can achieve."

Top 5 Points to Ensure Your Website "doesn't suck" from September 14 luncheon at WCTC
| |
 | | Michael Barry, Ellenbecker Investment Group and Sandy Raasch, American Republic Insurance "network" before September's luncheon |
Here's the Top 5 Things You Need to Know to be sure Your Website "doesn't suck" per Pat McKenna, our September Luncheon Speaker:
1. People don't read. They scan! Research indicates that users stay on a Web page for only 10-20 seconds on average and only read 1/4 of the text. To gain several minutes of user attention, you must clearly communicate your value proposition within 10 seconds, be sure to edit longer presentations of text into smaller paragraphs with sub-headers above each to call out topical themes; use bullets and numeric lists to highlight key features, etc. 2. Your site's title tag is critical for search engine optimization; Google will index up to 66 characters, so always make sure to place both your company name and key search terms in that area. (e.g., ABC Accounting | Pewaukee accountants, tax preparation, tax audits) 3. Make sure you're navigation is intuitive, clearly displayed and designed to connect visitors with key content. 4. Post and work testimonials into the site design to emphasize satisfied customers and product/service performance and features. 5. Do not lift or use your favorite songs for background music; violates copyright law. Use royalty-free music from sites like istockphoto.com.
And if you need expert help, you can always contact Pat McKenna, Mojo Web Productions.

Questions to the Editor
| | Q: I'm seeing a lot of ads from members in the newsletter. How do I get an ad inserted in the newsletter and what is the cost?
A: You can receive a free ad a number of ways. Whenever you refer a new member to the chamber, you have your choice of a 20% commission or a spotlight table at a luncheon and a free ad. All members receive a free ad at least once per year. Send it camera ready to the Editor. If you would like Ron Wurm with Design Wurm to create an ad for you - He will do so for $25 - this is quite a bargain! Remember - deadline for submissions to the newsletter is always the 15th of the month prior. And, of course new members immediately receive a free ad with their membership. Pete Fenelon of Composure Graphics will create it for them.
Q: How can I tell if anyone is viewing my website linked to the Chamber's website?
A: Glad you asked the question. This is one of the many benefits of your chamber membership. With our enhanced Search Engine capabilities through Google, Yahoo, etc. your website will come up and display more prominently on a search engine as a result of your chamber membership and website linkage. If you would like to see how many visitors are actually looking at your website through the chamber's website, you can view your results through your "Member Log In" which can be found in the left hand side of our chamber web page.
