Campaign Chairs and Directors Mission
|
Linda with an Ethiopian Immigrant in our partnership region, Kiryat Malachi. |
Linda Simmons, the 2011 Annual Campaign Chair and Deborah Goldfarb, Executive Director of the Jewish Federation traveled to Hungary and Israel
along with 125 Jewish Federation
professionals and volunteers from across North America.
Throughout Hungary and in Israel, mission participants experienced how Jewish Federation overseas partners,
JDC and the Jewish Agency, are meeting Jewish needs and nurturing Jewish life
worldwide.
Linda explains, "This was my tenth trip to Israel and my fifth Federation
Mission. I have seen the needs many
times but this trip showed me the results of the work that we can all do
together." Linda continues, "Our Mission has inspired Deborah
and me to grow our efforts to strengthen our Jewish world with your help. As we move into the High Holidays and beyond,
I invite all you to reflect upon the importance of sustaining a worldwide
Jewish community which enriches our local Jewish community and our lives. I
hope you will all commit to getting involved in whatever way you can, whether through
volunteerism or donations."

Fighting Hunger in Long Beach
|
The Jewish Federation, the Kehillah Leadership Council, and the Temple Israel Brotherhood are working together to help the Centro Shalom Food Pantry stock its shelves throughout 2010 and 2011. Each month a different organization, synagogue or agency will be hosting a food drive for Centro Shalom. Contact Sharon to sign your organization up!
Bring your non-perishable canned goods to the Alpert JCC throughout the month of August. The colored bins are located in the promenade underneath the stairs.

Help Flood Victims in Pakistan
|
The Jewish Federation of Greater Long Beach in partnership with the American
Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), the world's leading Jewish
humanitarian assistance organization, is collecting funds to aid victims of the
devastating floods in Pakistan. JDC has previously provided relief to the
Pakistani people in the wake of the disastrous 2005 and 2008 earthquakes. "By harnessing our vast experience in international disaster relief and
tapping our network of partners on the ground to assess the most pressing
needs, JDC will quickly respond to those affected by the floods in
Pakistan," said JDC CEO Steven Schwager. "Guided by the principle of
tikkun olam (repairing the world), we'll help ensure that the most vulnerable
are reached."
To make a donation, you may do so online by clicking here and writing Pakistan Flood in the notes section.
