I am pleased to announce that we have a stellar group of speakers lined up for ADAO's 6th International Asbestos Awareness Conference, including Jordan Barab, our keynote speaker, who is highly respected for his efforts to establish safe working environments. Take a few moments to read through our program for the full list of speakers and honorees.
Since 2004, our core principles of education, community support and advocacy continues to strengthen ADAO. We remain dedicated to serving as the voice of the victims and working towards a complete ban of asbestos and increased research funding for a cure.
Over the last month, ADAO has already completed two trips to Washington, DC and has successfully met with more than 20 congressional offices, the EPA, Department of Labor, and the White House.
As global momentum for an asbestos ban mounts, we believe that the United States Senate and House will not only pass Asbestos Awareness Week Resolutions, but also ban asbestos legislation this year. Together, change is possible.

Honoring Army Archerd
Army Archerd will be honored posthumously with the first Warren Zevon "Keep Me in Your Heart" Memorial Tribute. Archerd was a prolific Variety columnist and Hollywood icon who passed away in 2009 from mesothelioma. He was remembered in the 2010 Academy Awards on March 7, 2010 and Variety recently announced ADAO's Memorial Tribute.
Army Archerd's legacy is immeasurable, and his important work to further HIV awareness fueled additional research and improved treatment options echoes ADAO's educational efforts to help end the tragedy of asbestos disease. Jordan Zevon stated, "My father would be enormously honored to have had the opportunity to pay tribute to Army Archer. It is not just the deadly disease that they shared, but a passion for their respective arts and their fearlessness to take a stance on what is right." |
