SAFE storms the Windy City
We started the new year with a bang at the 2008 Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) Annual Meeting in Chicago. Over the weekend of January 3-6, the SAFE booth was used to host special events, sign up new members, and spread our message. We also held our 2008 Beacon Awards and organized two SAFE Tours at the Oriental Institute Museum. We thank our Award Winners Drs. Neil Brodie and Donny George, and the entire SAFE Team of volunteers who helped plan and execute these events. Last but not least, we thank the individuals and organizations who supported us through their sponsorship in the Souvenir Journal. We couldn't have done it without you all. For a complete account of this exciting weekend, read here. |
Resources reorganized!
SAFE Member and Volunteer Genevieve Semple has been busy cleaning up the resources page on the SAFE website, giving our resources a much needed face lift.
By grouping the links into general categories and separating out on-line and off-line resources, we aim to make the webpage both more user-friendly and accessible to the public, and welcoming to academics and enthusiasts alike.
In addition, Genevieve has been named SAFE's Resource Editor to maintain the page and keep the resources current. We strive to make the resources as up-to-date and comprehensive as possible, and encourage everyone's participation in contributing.
E-mail Genevieve to help out. In addition, look forward to a category on submerged cultural heritage coming soon. (Photo: Chetra Kotzas)

Member of the Year: Sarah Pickman
Once again it is time to acknowledge the work of our dedicated members, without which there is no SAFE. SAFE Members of the Year recognize individuals whose dedication to SAFE has been exemplary. This year, we are delighted to honor Sarah Pickman.
Since Sarah interned with SAFE and later joined as a Member, her contribution has been invaluable. This culminated during the months leading up to our presence at the AIA Meeting, when she lent us her skills as a writer, editor, organizer and tour leader, etc, etc. While in Chicago, Sarah amazed us with her good judgment and composure. Her calm and SMILE became a source of comfort to the rest of the SAFE Team.
Sarah, we thank you.
