The world's cultural heritage isn't just the domain of scholars, collectors, or museums. Cultural heritage belongs to everyone, and stewardship is shared by all of us. For when cultural heritage is lost - through looting, theft, and destruction - the most important way for us to discover our past is gone. Forever.

Neil Brodie and Donny GeorgeThis is why organizations and individuals from all walks of life are joining together with SAFE to recognize the importance of protecting cultural heritage worldwide and prepare for the 2008 Archaeological Institute of America annual meeting, where we will honor Dr. Neil Brodie and Dr. Donny George Youkhanna with the 2008 SAFE Beacon Award for their outstanding work to bring these important issues to the public.

Joining SAFE in this effort are scholars and experts in the field who have shared ideas and worked with our honorees; students who have gained knowledge from them; and citizens around the world who want to show their appreciation and support for the cause. Won't you join us as well?

08 Beacon Awards Souvenir JournalHelping SAFE at the AIA annual meeting in Chicago could not be easier. And there are many benefits! You can thank our honorees and advertise your business or organization  by placing an advertisement or congratulatory announcement in the 2008 Beacon Award Souvenir Journal, a professionally printed booklet that serves as a keepsake to commemorate this special occasion. Our advertising rates are extremely affordable, and the ad will be seen by thousands of people at the AIA conference, at the Beacon Awards Reception and beyond. To show your personal support, consider placing a name inscription in the Journal for only $25. Space is limited, so please reserve your spot by November 21. There is no better way for you or your group to salute our honorees.

Revenue from advertisements and name inscriptions will help SAFE defray the cost of production, printing and distributing the Souvenir Journal and help underwrite our presence at the AIA meeting.

If you plan to be in Chicago on Saturday, January 5, please join us for the Beacon Awards event, enjoy drinks and hors d'oeuvres, meet our two distinguished honorees. To reserve your ticket, please click here.

Oriental Institute MuseumAnd don't forget to reserve your spot at one of Dr. Youkhanna's private SAFE Tours of the world-renowned Oriental Institute Museum on Sunday, January 6 at 1 and 2:30 pm. This is a rare opportunity to learn about Iraqi cultural heritage by studying a famous (and ethically assembled) collection with one of the subject's foremost experts. Slots are filling up, so please reserve now!

Sincerely,
Sarah Pickman, SAFE Beacon Awards Committee
