Join the La Entrada PTA! We NEED your Membership!
It's not too late! If you have put off joining the PTA, please know that you are not alone. Just think of how good it will feel to check that off your long list of "to do's."
Signing up is easy! Visit the PTA website to sign up online using PayPal or pick up a form in the office to write a check. Please feel free to contact Shari Guggenhime (membership@laentradapta.org) with any questions.
We need many more families to participate in order to continue with all the enrichment programs we have planned for our students. 100% of your contribution provides much-needed funds towards programs like Field Trips, Holiday Faire, Family Picnic, Science Fair, Spelling Bee and much more! Joining the PTA does not mean you're signing up to volunteer. Payment of your membership fees is simply demonstrating your support to help fund our programs.
As the La Entrada PTA does not fundraise during the year, it is of utmost importance that we receive necessary funding for vital programs through your membership support. Thank you!
REFLECTIONS
La Entrada PTA is launching a program to unleash your artistic talents. Reflections is a theme-based national PTA Arts program/competition that has been in existence for 40 years. The student creates a work of art based on the theme "Magic of a Moment." The winning artwork at our school goes on to compete at the district, state and national levels.
CAREER DAY
Career Day is an opportunity for the kids to get some exposure to a range of careers that might be available to them when they are ready to join the workforce. The format will most likely be a tradeshow setting in which an assortment of working parents will showcase what they do and what it takes to do it.
This is the first year for this event - we are open to your ideas to make a success. If you would like to help coordinate or be a part of the career day, please contact Linda Itskovitz at litskovitz@gmail.com.
FAMILY PICNIC The 2012 La Entrada Family Picnic is just around the corner, Thursday, September 20th from 5:30 to 7 PM on the school playground. Please click here if you would like to order and pay online via PayPal. Click here if you would like to download the form and return it with your payment by mail or drop it in the office. As an added convenience, we will be sending an order form home with your child on Monday afternoon. Please order your dinners by Friday, September 14th. Hope you can make it! If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact Family Picnic Co-Chairs Maryellen McCabe and Liesl Noble at picnic@laentradapta.org. LA ENTRADA LUNCHTIME ENRICHMENT LELE is a fabulous program that allows our children to meet at lunch for extra learning and enrichment. This year our 3 clubs are Book Club, Youth Action Council, and Latin Club and we need your help to make this program a success. Each club meets once a month. Book Club Leaders encourage discussion around the book and often (but not necessarily) bring a treat to share. Doe Myers, our librarian is also involved and will help with book recommendations and general discussion questions. Youth Action Council (YAC) is a community service project allowing the kids to decide what projects they wish to "take on" during the course of the year. This program is run by Emily McDonough and Jeannine Medina, our wonderful school counselors. We need one or two parent volunteers to help out. Latin Club is new this year and will be run by Mr. Dumbra and Denise Dowsett. For the older kids this will help prepare them for the 58th State Junior Latin Convention and for the 4th & 5th graders it will be a forum to get them excited about Latin and to foster interest in selecting this as their language when they enter 6th grade. We are looking for a parent to work with Mr. Dumbra and Denise to coordinate the program for the younger kids. Please contact Esther Dicks if you are able to help with one of these programs. Many thanks to Esther for stepping up to chair this valuable program!

CREATIVE ART FOR YOUNG CHILDREN - Portola Valley Town Center FALL 2012 Sept. 20-Dec. 8 (no classes Nov. 22-24) To begin our Fall Session we will bring the earthy colors of fall together with art projects inspired by an African theme. We will explore what life is like for the Maasai children and learn the games they play and how much they are loved by the whole community. The making of clay dolls and jungle animals, masks and beaded jewelry will help us find a deeper connection to our African friends. And our hearts will jump for joy to the beat of African drums as we follow Picasso (who was also inspired by African Art) into his world of painting where we will find inspiration from a man who dared to sketch like a 3 year old and spent a lifetime learning to paint like a child. What comes next depends on where our creativity takes us, but we will end with our ever popular art show where the kids point to their artwork with our very big magic paint brush. More info on Town's website: portolavalley.net Teacher: Jeannie Goldman (650) 851-1914 Register with the town online or call Cindy @ (650)851-1700 ext. 200 Sign-ups start Aug. 10th for P.V residents, Aug. 24th Open Reg.
