From the PTA President

Dear La Entrada Community,

Welcome back from what we hope was a summer filled with family and friends, rest and relaxation. We have such an exciting year ahead in our district and look forward to serving as the Co-Presidents of the La Entrada PTA.  The PTA supports a range of programs that make our school such a special place for our children. Joining the PTA and volunteering has never been easier. We know the enthusiasm and dedication of our parent community and look forward to being blown away by your supportagain this year!

Online Membership and Volunteering

We are now entering our second year of a mostly paperless start to school. Three cheers! All district paper work, PTA membership, and volunteer sign ups can be found at http://www.laentradapta.org. We hope you enjoy the ease of completing these annual back to school tasks online. No more teetering piles of paperwork to sort through!

Your membership form and dues can be completed online using Paypal or you may still download the membership form and pay by check. Additional forms are also available in the office.

As the La Entrada PTA does not fundraise during the year, it is of utmost importance that we receive necessary funding for vital programs through your membership support. Basic membership for a family with one child is $48, with $25 asked for each additional child attending La Entrada. Note that the PTA's of Las Lomitas and La Entrada are separate organizations, so if you have children at both schools please join both groups. Join the PTA today!

Volunteering for our parent supported programs and activities has never been simpler. We hope these changes will make it even easier to support our school community and help our committee chairs and volunteers plan, organize and implement activities. Online volunteer signups for all PTA programs can be found at http://www.laentradapta.org/volunteer.html.

Hot Lunch

Volunteering for hot lunch is a great way to see your child, meet their friends, and socialize with other parents!

The program needs volunteers for Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for the 4/5 grade lunch period (approximately 11 AM) and/or the 6-8 grade lunch period (approximately 12 PM).  A minimum of five volunteers is needed per lunch period.

Hot Lunch Chairs for Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays are also needed.

Hot Lunch starts Wednesday, August 29 and it is critical to have enough volunteers to get things off to a good start.

Please email your availability to program chair  Julia Massa or sign up online at  http://www.laentradapta.org/volunteer.html (click on "Hot Lunch" on the left sidebar for more info.) Thank you for your support!

Welcome Coffee

Please join us for our first PTA meeting and Volunteer Fair on Thursday, August 23 from 9:15-11:15 am in the MUR. This is a perfect opportunity to connect with old friends and meet new ones. We are also happy to hear from key people in our district, including our new Superintendent Lisa Cesario and new Principal Shannon Potts. Please join us in welcoming them both to La Entrada!

We will also have computers set up to allow you to sign up for the wide variety of volunteer opportunities available at La Entrada. You can also keep up to date with our PTA Calendar: http://www.laentradapta.org/calendar.html.

We are looking forward to another great year at La Entrada!

From the Superintendent

Dear La Entrada Community,

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Shannon Potts as the new Principal at La Entrada Middle School.  The recommendation of her appointment was approved at a special board meeting last week.

For the past seven years, Shannon has served as the Santa Clara Unified School District's Coordinator of Assessment.  She was an integral part of the Educational Services Division, working very closely with the Curriculum & Instruction and Special Education Departments.  She has extensive administrative experience working with staff at the K-12 level, which involved close articulation and collaboration around curricular reform.  These skill sets will not only help La Entrada, but the district as a whole as we move forward with the Common Core Standards and our newly adopted Strategic Plan.

Prior to Shannon's work in assessment, she began her administrative career as the Instructional Materials, Library and Technology Specialist at the middle school and high school levels.  For several years, she served as a summer principal at both the middle school and high school levels working very closely with the Stanford Step Program.

As a teacher, Shannon taught first and sixth grades.  She holds technology and bilingual credentials.  She received her Bachelor of Arts degrees in History and Spanish from Santa Clara University and her Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from San Jose State University.

Shannon is married and has three children; her youngest daughter is starting Cal Poly in September while her older sons are finishing up their college careers.

Please join me in welcoming Shannon to our community at an informal reception hosted by the Las Lomitas Education Foundation. This will be a great opportunity to get to know her as she settles into her new role, and for her to get to know the parent community as well.

Time: Thursday, Aug 16th, at 5 pm

Location: Outdoors, near the lunch tables at La Entrada.

Please RSVP to Leticia Gomez at lgomez@llesd.org.

Look forward to seeing you on Thursday!

Regards,

Lisa Cesario
