The Las Lomitas Elementary School District presents:

"RE-IMAGINING K-8 EDUCATION FOR THE 21ST CENTURY"

By Dr. Ira Lit, Associate Professor, Director of
Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP) Elementary

TUESDAY, SEPT. 13TH AT 7:00PM @ CANO HALL

What students learn and how they learn it are critically important for expanding the ways children think and what they are able to do; for encouraging children's natural curiosity; for keeping children interested in learning in school; and for preparing our children to live healthy, productive and meaningful lives beyond school. Parents, teachers, as well as the LLESD community are invited to attend.

To help our speaker plan for the presentation, please RSVP by clicking HERE, though walk-ins are welcome.

This event is sponsored by the Las Lomitas Education Foundation, the Las Lomitas PTA, and the La Entrada PTA.

Music Notes
    by Mr. C. Cooper

All fourth and fifth graders will have an excellent opportunity to sing in the chorus of Italian composer Donizetti's opera, "Elixir of Love."  The performance will center around the guest visit of a number of professionals from San Francisco's, "Opera à la Carte" who will take part in two assemblies during the morning of Monday, October 24 in Jensen Hall. Ms. Ostrom, our school's drama instructor, will also be working with a number of 6, 7 and 8th graders who will be acting alongside the professionals in "Elixir of Love."

Three Thursday afternoon chorus rehearsals will prepare your child for this exciting voluntary opportunity at La Entrada. The rehearsals will take place in the music room, right after school, from 2:45 until 3:40 so that, if necessary, students can catch the 'late bus' home. Rehearsal dates are: September 29, October 13 and October 20. (There is no school on October 6 due to a 'staff development day.')
This week, fourth and fifth graders should be bringing home a parent-permission form to sign if your child is interested in singing in this opera. If your child would like to perform in the chorus, please get the signed form back to Mr. Cooper by Monday, September 26.

MENLO-ATHERTON HIGH SCHOOL'S GRANDPARENTS' CLUB!

The M-A Grandparents' Club is your way to connect your students' grandparents to their new high school, Menlo-Atherton. We will do the work for you by spreading the word about what's happening at M-A. Keeping in touch gives grandparents more in common with their grandchildren.

Registered grandparents will receive news about M-A and information about school academics, events and activities. They also will be informed about opportunities to support their grandchildren by supporting M-A, and find out why they should be so proud of this school!

Join today!  Parents, you can register on behalf of the grandparents in your family. Just go to: http://www.mafoundation.org/grandparents.php and sign up on the online form, or sign up by printing the Grandparent Registration Form on the same page and mail it to the M-A Grandparents' Club, Foundation for the Future, P.O. Box 1228, Menlo Park, CA 94026. Any questions? Contact Mary Zarucchi at menlomaryz@aol.com .

We know grandparents love to get mail and know more about what their grandchildren are doing. AND we know that high school age grandchildren occasionally do not keep in touch with grandparents in these busy years. So take advantage of this way to reconnect them. It's free and super easy!
