From the Principal

Dear La Entrada Community,

Spring is in the air (not officially, but we are seeing lots of signs).  I hope you all remembered to "spring ahead" this weekend. (We will know if you didn't because your child will be an hour late to school on Monday!)

Parent/Teacher Conferences: March 16-18

Conferences are this week.  School ends at 11:30am on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  No lunch is served on these days.

If you find that you can't make your scheduled conference, please cancel as soon as possible so that we may fill the spot.

Public High School Registration

Mrs. McDonough and I will visit all 8th grade classes on Friday to distribute high school registration materials.  Materials are due back on Tuesday, March 22. Even students who think they are going to private school should complete these forms.  After private school acceptances are out, please provide us with a copy of the letter so that we can remove the student from the public high school list.

On Monday, March 21, we will have an Address Verification event here at La Entrada from 5-7pm.  So that everyone doesn't shows up at the same time... people with last names that start A-M should come from 5-6pm, and last names N-Z should come from 6-7pm.  This is a great opportunity to get this required activity done without having to go to the District Office.

Mandarin Pilot Moving Forward

The Board of Trustees approved a Mandarin 1a pilot for the 2011-12 school year.  We will be moving forward with posting for a teacher and investigating instructional materials.

Parking Lot Reminder

Please remember that when exiting our parking lot (during drop off and pick up times), you must turn right onto Sharon Road.  This keeps the traffic flowing through the parking lot and not backing up onto the street.

Upcoming Dates to Know

Partner Concert (with MA high school) is on March 23 at 7pm at MA

Grandparents' Day is Friday, March 25th

Airbands night performance is on March 31st at 6:30

Student Council election process starts on April 4

Incoming 4th grade parent meeting on April 14

Current 3rd graders visit on April 15

Next month I will review the class placement process that we use at La Entrada.

I hope you all enjoy the start of spring!

Larry Thomas

Grandparents' Day - Important Notice about Hot Lunch that Day

If your child will be joining a grandparent for lunch, please be sure to send them with a brown bag lunch on Friday, March 25th. Any lunches ordered through Children's Choice should be cancelled if your child will be eating with his/her grandparent.  This will ensure that your child is able to spend time with his/her grandparent rather than spending time in a long lunch line. Students will join their grandparents at tables set up in the big gym. The Foundation will serve grandparents a light lunch.

Questions about Grandparents' Day? Please read our Grandparents' Day overview found on the Foundation website.

REVISED 2011-12 ACADEMIC CALENDAR
Dear Parents,
At its meeting on Wednesday night, our Board of Trustees adopted a revised calendar for the upcoming school year. The sole change was to the dates for winter vacation so that it will align more closely with Menlo-Atherton's.
To print out a copy of the new calendar, click on the following link:  2011-12 Academic Calendar revised.
Our district calendars are posted on our website.

I want to thank all of you who participated in our survey on the topic and provided valuable input for our Board's consideration. I also want to thank the employee organizations who collaborated in order to effect this change.

MENLO-ATHERTON SPRING MUSICAL

Life is Pandemonium!*

Navigating the world of pre-adolescence is tough enough, but when you factor in all the stresses of competing in the "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," Life IS Pandemonium!* M-A's International Thespian Society proudly presents this Tony-award winning Broadway musical comedy, opening on Friday night, March 18th, with live accompaniment by students from M-A's band.
