From the PTA Presidents
| Did you miss out February General PTA meeting? Matthew Zito, principal of Menlo-Atherton High School, spent 45 minutes with attendees discussing the changes he has instituted at M-A during his tenure and sharing his philosophy about heading up such a vibrant and diverse school. He was a inspiring guest. If you missed him, we hope to have return visits next year!
During that meeting we took a mid-year look at our budget. Everyone responsible for programs for the PTA has been careful about expenditures. As you know, we have no fundraisers other than our membership drive. Due to changes in the way we account for outreach lunches and changes in the outreach program, we were able to transfer money from that fund into the Field Trip and In-House Enrichment Fund. Due to those changes and other savings, each grade level will be receiving an additional $1000 from the PTA to be used towards field trips, like the fourth-grade trip to Mission San Juan Baptista, or in in-house enrichment, like the storyteller during the fifth-grade Colonial Day. This brings the funds donated by the PTA for these program to a total of $15,000 or $3,000 per grade.
As funding from state and federal sources diminishes, reducing the funds available for many school programs, the Executive Board felt that any funds we had available should be used to enhance the educational experiences of our children in this school year. We were happy that the general membership supported this decision. Thank you! As these funds are used by teachers, we often receive thank you notes from the classes. We have posted a few in the PTA bullentin board located near Jensen Hall. Take a look if you are at school.
Our next General Meeting will be Wednesday, April 13, at 9:15 in the MUR when the slate of candidates for 2011-2012 PTA will be approved. Look for that slate to be presented in an upcoming Leopard's Spot.
We hope to see you there! Marsha and Lucia |

MENLO-ATHERTON SPRING MUSICAL
The International Thespian Society is proud to present the Tony-award winning Broadway musical comedy, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," opening on Friday night, March 18th, with live accompaniment by students from M-A's band. When six young spellers convene in the local high school gym for the annual county spelling bee, parental pressures and pre-pubescent stress send them into overdrive. Audience participation is all part of the fun with the chance to see favorite M-A teachers on the hot seat as they attempt to spell alongside the student actors. The music will have you humming along at every turn and the hilarious dialogue will have you laughing out loud as you cheer for this adorable cast of misfits, clumsily navigating the world of pre-adolescence.
