BEAUTY AND THE BEAST MEETING

There will be a mandatory "Beauty and the Beast" parent meeting on Thursday, March 3rd at 6:30 - 7:30.  This meeting will be an information meeting about the play and an opportunity for parents to sign up for various committees that support the play.  The meeting will be held in the MUR.

STAR WRITING TESTS for 4th and 7th graders - March 1, 2011  The annual California Standardized Testing and Reporting Writing Test, also known as the STAR Writing Test, will be given to all 4th and 7th graders on March 1, 2011.  The make-up day will be Wednesday, March 2, 2011.

We are asking that parents please make every effort to have your 4th and 7th grader here in school for the March 1st test date and to not pull them from school early for appointments.
The scores from this writing component are combined with the students' scores on the multiple-choice component of the test to produce the final English Language Arts ( ELA) test scores published in August 2011.

Last year only 7th graders were tested by the state in writing.  In years past, California did test both 4th and 7th graders.  This year California has decided to again include all 4th graders in this standardized testing test.  There is no better way for students to prepare for this test than to complete all writing assignments in their regular classes and be mindful of their writing conventions.  Good luck to all our 4th and 7th grade writers!

MENLO ATHERTON HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL
Calling all eighth grade musicians! Music is in the Air! It's already time to start thinking about high school and making beautiful music next year as a member of the brand new Menlo Atherton High School Orchestra. In addition to the historically vibrant MA Band and Jazz Band, an MA Orchestra is being added in the fall. The MA Orchestra invites violin, viola, cello and bass players to apply (wind players are also welcome).
The Menlo Atherton Orchestra will meet four days a week (three 50 minute class periods and one long block period). The orchestra will perform 4-5 concerts per year as well as attending CMEA events and may also travel to a music festival. Inter- ested musicians should have at least one year of playing experience and preferably two. Anyone who doesn't have two years of playing experience in a school group or community youth orchestra should plan to audition for the Menlo Atherton band director, Kent Kurrus.
The school requires a minimum of 25 current or incoming students to express their interest in becoming orchestra members in order for the program to go forward in the fall. Please contact Mr. Kurrus to express your interest by e-mail at kkurrus@seq.org or by phone by calling Mr. Kurrus at 650-322-5311. Your response is required to make this program live in the fall. Thank you and welcome to the world of MA music!
